Time is running short for me as DD1’s first graded test is on 29th Jan :imdrowning:

This morning, we had a short discussion regarding sec 3 subject combinations with both girls. DH suggested taking History (for Humanities) and Chemistry (for Science) as he scored well for these 2 subjects.

@Janet, with a GPA of 3.7, is it 100% guarantee that your son will get a full-time EEE course in NTU/NUS?
Hihi! Can I suggest on the subjects to take? Definitely take chemistry as it's increasingly a prerequisite for many university courses, even engineering based which used to require physics. Now, it's chemistry. As for the other science subject to take, physics or biology, it depends on interest and aptitude. Hope this helps! πŸ˜„

        Hi Lee,

For Science students, whether IP or O-level, Chemistry is compulsory (cannot choose).

        For Sec 3 Science students
        - can consider choose, either Physics or Bio.

Thanks for sharing, it is definitely a useful point for us. DH chose chemistry for the girls because he thinks he is able to help them with this subject. πŸ˜‚

                Physics is abstract.

Usually, boys better in Physics & Maths, although some girls also strong in Physics

My DD1 said she likes Bio more but she can’t do well. Hmmm...

Don’t think need to be excellent in maths to do well in physics. Math ok, also can.

For Bio, in Year 1, learn about cells, diffusion and osmosis.... That day, DD1 said she was stunned by a question like how much food must a 50kg person eat. Now besides memorizing, must also know how to apply.

Triple Science is still allowed, only up to Year (3 & 4). But not allowed, beyond Year 4

But, once enter Junior College level (JC1 or Year 5), for Science students -
Not allowed to take Triple Science anymore, because SEAB (Sg) made us take a compulsory contrasting subject, from Arts / Humanities category. At JC1, Science students either take
                      - PCM (Physics, Chem, Maths), or

                      - BCM (Bio, Chem, Maths), plus a 4th subject from Arts side. Choosing this 4th contrasting subject, not easy

to me, physics is like another math subject.

during the briefing last year, the principal told us there is no need to take triple science in order to take medicine.
