every school's raw score is of no help in the estimate because their standards are different from school to school. A child from school A with raw score of 380 cannot be compared with another child of the same raw score from school B.

I am using PSLE score here to estimate - not raw score from schools.
And nobody actually know the raw scores in the actual PSLE exam, but it is a known fact that every subject's mean and SD are different

I am making informed guesses of the PSLE total raw-scores from the extreme cases. The estimate is for overall mean and SD. Since the papers are easy, the SD should be quite consistent for all 4 papers.
it will be more instructive if the schools provide its own t-score for every student every year and bench mark it to actual performance at PSLE and see where they stand. that will be much more able to predict the PSLE actual scores
I know a NYP girl who failed her P6 math in every semester but got an A in PSLE, which explains why the mean for NYP math is ONLY 65.8. She was so demoralised and her parents were so upset. I really cannot understand how such mis-match between prelim and psle standard is of help. So the parents will tell the kid, \"Don't worry, it is ok to fail now. Based on the bench mark to actual performace at PSLE, you will get A\"

Therefore, knowing that the overall mean is around 69 and yet that school's mean for math is 65.8, we can tell the school that they are doing a disservice to the weaker students. Losing confidence and developing dislike for math is not something that can be corrected easily.
you know the actual raw scores for the PSLE ? don't joke / mislead people lah

the papers were easy, BUT not all 4 subjects are all equally easy. what a joke to say there should be \"consistent\" since \"they are easy\". Consistent in what ? consistently different from each and every subject is more like it

why upset ? it just shows that that girl need some waking up to before the PSLE to achiever her potential

the school's overall result is proof that what they do is on the right track : more than 82% scored at least 4As or higher

in every school there are stories of pupil who scored badly in school tests and did well for the PSLE - waking up not too late from the slumber; there are also some proud peacock who did worse in PSLE than in prelim

parents should bear in mind that every subject's mean and SD is different from year to year
My son got all 4As but only get 224, so disappointing!!! Thought of putting 1st choice as Maris Stella High....

If happens both pupils get 224, first pupil put his 1st choice as Fuhua and second pupil put as 2nd choice. You think second pupil will get into Fuhua? Will first pupil get the first priority? Pls comment...thks πŸ™‚

as he had fever during psle, with special consideration of 4 points, he has 232. goin to appeal for sst as our ds didnt manage to clear e 2nd around. now, we are struggling as to which schools to choose. seems like to risky to put sji as 1st choice, but we can only appeal if we put sji as 1st choice rite? our choices :-

1st choice - sji
2nd choice - maris stella
3rd choice - clementi town
4th choice - ?
5th choice - ?
6th choice - ?

:?: :?: :?: pls advise.

I think appealing for SJI through normal channel is difficult because the COP is 241. Therefore, there is no real advantage in putting it as the 1st choice.

My personal consideration for Sec school is discipline and distance. I think Maris stella is a good choice. Maybe you would also like to consider Nan Chiau (231) and Presbyterian High (229). The 4th, 5th ... choices are not important if we are realistic with our first 3 choices.

yaya totally agree with u that discipline & distance shld b the main consideration. unfortunately we are stayin in bt timah & all the elite schs are nearby but beyond our reach. so near yet so far. hv a feelin tat he wont make it to nan chiau.

now more like :-

1. maris stella cop 232 band 3
2. clementi town cop 230 band 4

hv selected few schs but dunno how to place

fuhua cop 229 band 4
presbyterian cop 229 band 5
st andrew cop 233 band 7
gan eng seng cop 222 band 5
bt batok cop 221 band 5

what do u advise? heard of fuhua?

Sorry, I have no idea of Fuhua. I feel that it is most important for your DS to work hard in Sec 1 & 2 and remain in the top class (even if the school may have lower COP) so that there is no/less notorious kids in his class. I know someone who managed to get into St And, got into big trouble because he mixed with wrong companies. Sec 1 & 2 are very important years for boys where they follow friends more than parents.

Pray that your DS gets his first choice. All the best.

Totally Agreed with U.
My Boy did Not Perform Well in PSLE, Got Less Than 200 ....
And We Let Him Go Into a NeighbourHood Normal Acad School ....
He's Perfectly Happy There - Mixing with His Own Group of Similar Minded Classmates Who Wish to DO Well And Improve Academically ....

However, there R Other Students in His Class (Even Though It is Top Class) .... Who Smokes, Who \"Ponteng\" Class, ....
Even His Form Teachers, During Every Year's Meet-the Parents Session, R Cautioning Us to Look Out for Our Boy, and Not to Mix with the \"WRONG\" Company in His Own Class ....

Relieved to Say That My Boy Perform Academically Well, And Remain in the Top Class ....
and He Has Just Finished His \"O-Level\" this Month and R Waiting for His Results Now ....
He Assures This Mummy He Has Done Well in His Exam, And Is Looking Forward to Enrol in His Favourite \"Animation\" Course in Poly Next Year ....

So, I DO Agree that Sec 1 and 2 R Crucial Year ....
And Our Kids Follow Friends .... More than Parents ....

hi,

can someone please advise.
my dd has 247+1(HCL) applying:
1. CHIJ St Nic
2. Cedar
3. TKGS

do you think the selection is risky since my first and second choice are borderline??(vs COP 247 and 246 respectively)

thank you

2 of my nieces are from Fuhua. If you are streamed into the best class, it's actually quite good. Both my nieces are well disciplined, and do well academically also in the school.

No, choice does not matter. There are many decimal places behind the 224 that you see on the result slip, in the database. So the one with the higher \"224\" will have priority over the one with the lower \"224\".

My wife called MOE regarding this and they agreed there will be a very small percentage that will have same T-score even they have many dec pl. In such cases, they said the person with 1st choice have an advantage.
