Hi,Hi parents.
Anyone with kids who are members with Mensa?
DS is 9 and DD is 7.
How do I get them screened to join Mensa?
Your input is much appreciated
Cheers!
Both my kids are junior Mensians. They have been members for more than 2 years. Mensa conducts IQ test at their centres. As at last year, I understand that the number of JMs stands at 500 plus. Call them for more information. -
Muffins:
No, the test is not administered online.
Hi kiasimom,
I have heard of kids who go online to the Mensa website and take a standardized test. If they score exceptionally well, in the top 2% of all the people who took the test, they can join!
Cheers!
And, its the top 2% of the general population - not sure how they determine that. -
Hi Fairy,
Do you mean I have to call Mensa to arrange for a testing at the centre?
What is the benefit of being a Mensa member?
Many thanks in advance. -
tony:
Actually, you need to send/fax them an IQ test report from a psychologist for kids below 14. The cost is $$$ if it's at a private practice but a lot cheaper if done at KK or NIE. We have no personal experience as my son is not keen. A friend also told me they don't have many activities for those below 12 yos because they don't have that many members in that age group. There is a game Sunday (people get together to play games) every month.
I'm not aware that they accept such external test report. Is that a new rule?
Around 500+ JMs as apposed to less than 3000 Ms. I understand there is not enough volunteers to organise activities for the juniors.
There are regular networking sessions, more for adults.
Both my kids claimed the test was easy. They both took the test at separate times. I understand it involves patterns, no words. -

Sorry, I am not a representative of Mensa. You may wish to pose the question to them.Hi Fairy,

The best way to get the latest info is to call them, including the entrance test. -
Fairy:
Fairy, at the time, I did call them. This was about 2 years ago. They asked me to fax a copy of the psych report which I didn't have. Later, I found out from a friend whose son joined on this basis about the Game Sundays, and figured it wasn't very appealing for us, so I dropped the idea.tony:

The lady at the end of the line told me that they did conduct tests for kids before, but they'd stopped for a while. Perhaps things have changed again? Yes do call if you're interested.
