DS said can drop H2 to H1 even just 1 day before the exam as long as have not taken any paper of that subject (some subjects have 4 papers including practical).
On this point, I would strongly suggest that anyone considering this option check in advance with their JC first. It may be that some JCs are less flexible than others, whatever the SEAB rules might be.

Thanks, slmkhoo, for sharing your experience. Good to know such info, in case the need to change to H1 in one of the subjects arises.
The \"vertical cut\" is the theory! But the specifics are likely to vary depending on subject, so it's best to consult the teachers early, before considering the change.

May I ask what is the raw L1R5 score to qualify for ESIS for JAE 2020?
DS O level results gotten raw score of 7 & qualified for ESIS.
            You mean ESIP?

My DS' time, it's the top 5% for the entire GCE O Level cohort.

              Yes, that’s right. Thanks.

Does anyone know what L1R5 score qualifies for ESIP this year?

In SG, schools not encourage students to take 4H2 subjects, plus GP and PW, total is 10 units, plus 1H1 MTL. Is 11 units. 1 H1 Ana PW ends at end of JC1 mostly.

While in other country such as Australia , schools encourage take 13-14 units at start, students can drop the units at jc2. Only exam 10 units.
As a parents I actually child to take the 4H2 in term of the 3H2 and 1H1. As students don’t know what Career he or she will interest in. If u take H1 at beginning, u can not prompt to H2 later even u score as A.

By the way, you stated correctly as ESIP has been replaced by ESIS.

You can’t compare SG with AU or UK. For starters, our A Level is totally different from their A Level.

The subjects that the students study have absolutely zero relevance to the career that they want to pursue. A Level subjects are a mean to get you into university, that’s all. As such, the only important move to make is to pick 4 subjects that the student is likely to do well in.

Given that very few courses have H2 as a course requirement (most of the time, H1 will suffice), 4H2 is unnecessary unless scholarship is at the top of your mind. Of course, if the student thinks he jin wu eng or eh sai, feel free to start with 4H2 until he becomes bo eng and bey sai. Take 4H2 for the right reasons but don’t use it as an insurance policy, it rarely works out.

i think it is good for JCs to start later to allow students who are far away to travel
