May I ask what is the raw L1R5 score to qualify for ESIS for JAE 2020?
DS O level results gotten raw score of 7 & qualified for ESIS.
      You mean ESIP?

My DS' time, it's the top 5% for the entire GCE O Level cohort.

        Yes, that’s right. Thanks.

Does anyone know what L1R5 score qualifies for ESIP this year?

          Dear all,

If student wants to apply MLEP( Malay language elective program) , student took MLEP at o level, how does the JAE form indicate there ? Would appreciate that u can update here. And L1R5 less 10 points school only RI and Nation JC have.

In SG, schools not encourage students to take 4H2 subjects, plus GP and PW, total is 10 units, plus 1H1 MTL. Is 11 units. 1 H1 Ana PW ends at end of JC1 mostly.

While in other country such as Australia , schools encourage take 13-14 units at start, students can drop the units at jc2. Only exam 10 units.
As a parents I actually child to take the 4H2 in term of the 3H2 and 1H1. As students don’t know what Career he or she will interest in. If u take H1 at beginning, u can not prompt to H2 later even u score as A.

By the way, you stated correctly as ESIP has been replaced by ESIS.

              Refer to the link here.

You can’t compare SG with AU or UK. For starters, our A Level is totally different from their A Level.

The subjects that the students study have absolutely zero relevance to the career that they want to pursue. A Level subjects are a mean to get you into university, that’s all. As such, the only important move to make is to pick 4 subjects that the student is likely to do well in.

Given that very few courses have H2 as a course requirement (most of the time, H1 will suffice), 4H2 is unnecessary unless scholarship is at the top of your mind. Of course, if the student thinks he jin wu eng or eh sai, feel free to start with 4H2 until he becomes bo eng and bey sai. Take 4H2 for the right reasons but don’t use it as an insurance policy, it rarely works out.

i think it is good for JCs to start later to allow students who are far away to travel

I agree, but only partially! There are some courses for which there are H2 prerequisites, so students should bear that in mind if they are possibly heading for those courses. Of course they may change their minds later, but no harm thinking ahead a bit.

But I agree that if the student knows that he is likely to struggle with 4H2, doing that in J1 will affect his learning for more than 50% of the content since a large part of the content is covered in J1. That may not be the best way to get better grades, given that the ultimate aim, as floppy points out, is to get the best grades possible. Note that with the UAS system, for the 4th subject, an A at H2 is equivalent to an A at H1.

That said, there are some students who are sure they can cope with 4H2s, and will go on to do an H3, take part in all sorts of CCA, and thrive. For those, let them take whatever they want. My 2 daughters were at the 2 ends of the A level spectrum - one did 3H2s and 1H1, struggled even with 1 extra year, and scraped into a not very competitive course; the other took 4H2s, extra Chem, an H3, took part in lots of other stuff, and although she grumbled about workload, coped well and ejoyed JC life. For the latter type of students, it would be a pity to advise them to take 3H2s when they could do more and stretch themselves. You just have to objectively assess your child.

                      hi Careermom,

i just called MOE, regarding your question

MOE replied that it is 8 points, but must be \"BEFORE\" any bonus point

That means, your L1R5 must be raw (original) 8 points, not Nett 8 points
