I think it will be like 30 years ago when only 3 A level subjects were needed and most would do 4 A level subjects and use the best 3. Weaker ones would drop the 4th A level subject in JC2.
Now with the change in computation score to 3H2 has been implemented, I wonder if majority of the kids will take 4H2 or just 3H2 1H1? Just a sudden thought.
Similarly when it became 3H2 1H1, most would still do 4H2 and make the worst H2, a H1. Weaker ones would drop the H2 to H1 in JC2.
So I dont see why human behaviour would change now that it has gone back to the computation used 30 years ago. -

Yes, it does feel like its going to back to those days. The only difference is the kids are being forced to a H1 that no one will put their full heart and effort in (if they are already doing 3H2 and 1H1) unless they are are taking it as H2 which may still act as an insurance.

It is indeed back to 30 years ago, where no contrasting subject was required.
So now a student can in fact take 3H2 of either pure Science or pure Arts, with the 1H1 being the obligatory contrast subject (which does not need to be counted in the RP, so “who cares? I can just flunk it!”) -
Yes, like back to 30yrs ago….. Those good in maths and science (for example) can take Maths, F Maths and a Science subject. No need to count the contrasting subject for university admission.
How about for the 3H2 subjects, one subject must be a contrasting subject ? :siam:
My friend’s JAE kid does not qualify to do 4H2. For this group of kids, stress level will definitely be lower as he can now focus on getting 3 As on his 3H2 subjects.
Although I can agree that there will be less stress for future batches of JC kids but I am not sure when it comes to university admission, what is gonna happen. If many kids just focus on getting 3As, then will IGP for most Uni courses be at AAA? Then how to differentiate the students? Take another uni entrance test? Build a strong portfolio? 200hrs of VIA? :nailbite: -

end up,
a lot of people with 3 straight As in their 3H2 subjects, will compete intensively for popular faculties in the local Uni. Your 4th WORST subject (whether H1 or H2), may or may not even count.
RP : Rank points -

It doesn't matter anymore, because one of your 4 subjects, is going to be your WORST subject.

For those taking 3 H2 + one H1, make sure u do well in your 3H2. Because
If your chosen H1 subject perform better than any of your 3H2, then ... -

For those strongly-science inclined, the H1 subject is likely to be Econs.
For those strongly-arts inclined, the H1 subject is likely to be Math (assuming that they are naturally weak in math but forced to do this contrast subject).
There is also room for interest subjects to be the H1 (eg Literature) where very few score A but the child just want to learn for interest’s sake. (This was one of the purposes mentioned in the press release regarding the rationale for the changes.)
