      Perhaps doctors are very visible as it’s the profession which faces many public individuals as you see tens of patients and their loved ones a day (compared to other professions which perhaps you may meet only 1 stakeholder or client a day or week, or not even have many clients, i.e. 1 client project a month).

      There are mega top earners in Medicine - no doubt about it. I can fully understand why parents want their kids to do Medicine. Taken at an overall sense, Medicine is a profession where you will be able to earn a decent salary across your whole life, and this premium you enjoy will stay so long as the profession is protected and not fully liberalised (i.e. we don’t open the floodgates to Medicine graduates of other countries/universities freely.)

      At the same time, viewing it from different perspective, it’s difficult enough to get into medical school. Among those in medical school, it’s another hurdle to get into residency, especially the popular residencies. Those who finish their residency training and succeed in the private sector, they do enjoy good earning potential. I’m not sure what the proportion is of medical school students who get to specialise nowadays - and some specialties enjoy far higher earning potential than others.

        For me personally, I enjoyed physical lectures and paying attention during lectures. There are things hints or information which cannot be tied down in recording. Certain opinions or views or personal techniques or methods would not be shared thru recordings. Lecturers who are skilful and engaging will stand out. They may crack jokes to get your attention etc. Such techniques are useful life skills to pick up too.
        Reviving this discussion abt online “live”/pre-recorded lectures in JC (versus on-site physical lectures).

        Does anyone have a handy list of which JCs still have physical lectures in 2024? Eg if u visited the various JC open houses and managed to ask.

        I just happened to be chatting with DS today about tangential JC stuff & he blurted out that he would prefer actual lectures vs watching on a screen (despite being able to fast fwd some).

          My humble suggestion - stay with the schools offering the IB if you do not like online lectures.

          That said, most unis will have online lectures in some form or other. So I won't make a JC/pre uni decision based on preferences for or against online teaching

            Thanks. That is provided he can get in.

            Do all uni courses have online lectures? Including Arts / social sciences courses?

              It’s hard to generalise uni courses as there is no ‘MOE’ standard or direction for e-learning. Pop over to Reddit - manu local uni courses do have online learning and I can imagine more courses are being converted to blended learning each year.

                  Please check with the IB schools.

                  My gut feel is IB syllabus change more often so less incentive to curate online lectures?

                  Also, our IB schools don't seem to have lectures and tutorials, but normal classes?

                    Based on what i heard elsewhere, the local IBDP schools do not have lectures at all. Meaning all their classes are held tutorial-style (small group) in the classroom. I suppose to facilitate discussions.

                      IB
                      ===
                      IB (SJI + ACSI) : no lecture theatre involvement, at all. All their IB lessons in Year 5 and Year 6, the final last 2 years, are conducted inside a classroom setting, just like your typical
                      Secondary (1 to 4) O-level classroom teaching method.

                      A-level
                      ======

                      In contrast,
                      Junior Colleges do involved lecture theatre, especially those Non-IP JCs like SAJC, ASRJC, TMJC, JPJC, CJC, ACJC, etc. In these JCs, the lecturer in charge of that subject stand inside the LT, to deliver the lecture content.

                      But,
                      certain IP JCs like RI - in Year 5 & Year 6, their RI students can play back the pre recorded lectures at home on Wednesday, for all their 4 H2 subjects. RI : no need to go lecture theatre at all, in order to attend lectures. Because the RI lectures are all pre-recorded, already. You want to listen or don't want to listen to all these available
                      pre-recorded lectures : is all up to you. You decide, yourself. RI students only go to classroom(s) for tutorial, to clarify doubts in front of their subject class Teachers.

                      LT : lecture theatre

                      =========================

                      One good thing about pre-recorded lecture (lesson) is that...

                      anytime, if u can't hear properly what the lecturer was saying, u can always re-wind back and play back that part, which u don't understand.

                        Thanks Phtthp.

                        I would opt for the availability of pre-recorded lectures any time. I find it better as I can self pace.
