Just wondering, for IP schools like RI, does the Y6 testimonial capture achievements from Y3/4 on top of Y5/6? Anyone with any past experience to share?
I'm asking as my dd has an excellent Y4 testimonial and it feels like a real waste if this is not going to be captured in any way in the Y6 one, since the IP programme is a continuous 6 year programme. Her JC testimonial is likely to be much less stellar due to fewer opportunities to shine ...
Thanks.

The year 5-6 testimonial only captures achievements from the date they are admitted to year 5 till end of year 6. So activities and achievements from years 3&4 will not be in the testimonial. However there should be a testimonial for RI boys at year 4 for that purpose.[/quote]
Thanks for the reply.
Just some more advice needed from anyone who has experience in this area. For NUS applications, the secondary school testimonial can be submitted in lieu of one of the 2 references (other than the JC testimonial) required. Would you recommend this if a student's secondary school testimonial is really outstanding? -

The fundamental question behind the educational philiosophy is whether you can bring out the best in a person through stress and fear of failure or whether you can bring out the best through positive encouragement and having someone consistently succeed rather than consistently fail.quote]
My friend remarked that during her time in JC, she was at best just passing all her tests and said that the JC grades are not a good indicator of the actual A level results, her daughter being an example of it. He doesn't understand why the JCs make their tests \"unreasonably\" difficult on the kids and said not to rely too much on JC results as an indicator of actual A level grades.
My son's feedback on the performance of his cohort in the recent mid-year exams is also consistent with my friend's experience in that even the scholars are merely scoring Bs and Cs at best, with some others even failing their various papers.
Hence, parent's must prop our child's confidence and motivate them during their time in JC and not let these dismal grades discourage or unnecessarily stress them out.
Both elements are often in play to motivate people, however my belief is that the best self expression of a person and the best self confidence is most often achieved through success and not fear of failure. The path to success has to be somewhat challenging so as not to foster overconfidence.
So I agree with the comment that students should not be too easily discouraged by extremely challenging tests. I had a chat with a student this week along the same lines. They were considering not pursuing a career in something they actually are quite good at and they needed to hear an honest assessment of whether they had a good basic skill set. And the student actually has a lot of potential. -
Want to check with you all - any of your kids plan to take H3 subject next year (if qualify).
If yes, do they plan to drop 1H2 subject to H1 or still retain 4 H2 subjects.
Those mums whose kids are in JC2, can you pls advise/share?
And for those who have taken H3 subjects before in JC, can you also pls share? -

My impression is that they keep to 4H2. H3 is not counted for university admission.Want to check with you all - any of your kids plan to take H3 subject next year (if qualify).

My impression is that pupils who take up H3 likely for building up their portfolios for scholarship applications....
So dont quite make sense if drop 1 H2 to H1... -

My kids are not in that phase, but this is based on others (friends' kids, church kids). As far as I hear, it really depends on the students' performance. Those who are managing ok with 4 H2s will continue, but those who are struggling may be advised by the JC to drop one to H1. Those who are really doing poorly may be asked to repeat JC1. An H3 subject will only be taken by those who are coping well and are judged able to manage. I don't know the proportions of each group, though I expect it will vary across JCs depending on the abilities of their cohort.Want to check with you all - any of your kids plan to take H3 subject next year (if qualify).

Those who qualify to take H3 typically take 1 H3 and 4 H2.
There are students who choose to take 2 H3, 3 H2 and 1 H1. (Taking 2 H3 and 4 H2 requires MOE approval, and is reserved for very top students)
In my opinion, 1 H3 4 H2 > 2 H3 3 H2 1 H1 -
My dd starts her 1st subject for Promo this Monday n she is super stressed!

You asked about H3. Is your dd planning to take up H3 next year? Which subject? -

She is thinking of but don't know which subject.
She is so fickle - one minute she wants this, the next minute she changes her mind.
So I don't think I shld take her words seriously.
