Hi.
Will like to hear your views on donations to charity organisations.
After the NKF and Ren Ci saga, will you still donate generously to the charity organisations as before?
Or you will be thinking if your money will go to the right uses? -
If we don’t donate the folk who are in need will not be receiving anything. For society to function well, it behooves the well-endowed to be generous in supporting the less fortunate. The rate of charitable giving in Singapore is dismal compared to Western climes. My philosophy is that I need to do my part, and hope that the others in the chain, including regulatory agencies, do theirs.

If you are keen to donate but want to see the money put in good use, donate in kind, rather than money. Eg. donate a dialysis machine to NKF rather than donating a couple of thousand dollars, donate bags of rice to the old folks and even help to distribute them, rather than just writing a cheque to the whatever organisation. You can ask the charitable organisations you have in mind their needs and donate in good and services to them.Hi.

But to donate a dialysis machine seems very expensive and not affordable.
I do agree that there are needy out there who needs our donations, but with the recent sagas, it is really diffcult to put one's mind at ease
sorry if I sound mindful

I feel like I will scrutinise and examine their accounting statements, looking out for things like cost per beneficiary for level of impact achieved before deciding to donate, or not.

To much hassle to look at the accounts. They should published how much they collected and when the money went to.

Movie - Poverty, Inc.

The West has positioned itself as the protagonist of development, giving rise to a vast multi-billion dollar poverty industry — the business of doing good has never been better.
Yet the results have been mixed, in some cases even catastrophic, and leaders in the developing world are growing increasingly vocal in calling for change.
Drawing from over 200 interviews filmed in 20 countries, Poverty, Inc. unearths an uncomfortable side of charity we can no longer ignore.
From TOMs Shoes to international adoptions, from solar panels to U.S. agricultural subsidies, the film challenges each of us to ask the tough question: Could I be part of the problem? -

Sometimes, I donate to the “underserved” charities. They are smaller and less well-known than the larger causes. It might mean that their staff and volunteers spend more time on serving their targeted audience and might not have the expertise to maintain the high standards of reporting as the bigger guys. But looking at what they do, I would still want to support them (as a volunteer and with modest financial donations).

I will donate what is practical for the charitable organisation eg groceries and other stuff which they could use.
Was quite hesitant about donating money as it could be misused if it ends up into the wrong hands. -

It's a pity that some mismanaged charities have made people suspicious. I guess if you get to know a particular charity by getting involved, or you know some people who work there and have some confidence in them, it will give you more peace of mind. The thing is, not all charities need gifts in kind, and sometimes such gifts may not be exactly what they need at that point in time.I will donate what is practical for the charitable organisation eg groceries and other stuff which they could use.

Donations need not be in the form of cash though is the easiest and most convenient. I would like to donate my time, knowledge or effort
