      Hello Notabox,

Thank you. I do have the same feeling as you. I will try to look for another centre.

Hi.. Anyone has any comment of the ICR @ Bukit TImah?

      Hi chia.shirley,

I went down with ds2 for an assessment @ ICR BT yesterday and he is now on wait list for their Sat class - ICR Preliminary. Ds was assessed by a female tr.

To be frank, I didn't feel her enthusiam towards kids and while talking to me, she got distracted a couple of times and appeared to be in a hurry to go off and wanted to end our conservation fast. As she leaves the centre, she bid my ds1 farewell, mistaking him for ds2 :|.

The admin lady is very unapproachable as well, no smile was offered and no attempt made to make us feel welcome. As compared to Zoophonics, they seriously should look into improving their customer service skill :P.

Well, the reason I still enrol ds is because I wanted to give the ICR system a try. A friend sent her dd to ICR and her dd was able to read after a few months. Even though Ds2 is doing ok at Zoophonics but he still can't read yet and has no interest in books.

Can't look at other branch because have planned to put ds1 and ds3 in other enrichment at BTP. Since all 3 timings matches, it helps to cut down the shuttering.

If you are not restricted by location, then I think you can give ICR a try at other branches. The system itself has proven to work for many and as seen from the poll, it is the preferred language program by parents.

Sorry, can give only an overview, not sure it helps. I will feedback again on the effectiveness after ds2 starts with them next year.

Same feeling...did you send your child for an assessment at BTP branch?

My child ha been in BTP Branch for about 10 mths. However he is facing quite abit of problems there. As parents, we know that our child is very active and likes to know if he is able to adapt to his lessons there. The teachers never bother to tell us about his behaviour until we asked to speak to the teacher. However she always looks far away when she is talking to us about my child. When we asked her specifically what our child did during her lesson and the work that he misses in lesson, she looks away and avoid answering our questions. I'm considering taking him out of that centre or ICR totally.

Oh my...think we could be talking about the same female teacher! I knew the teacher plays the most important part no matter how great a program is but the convenience of BTP just hasten my decision.

Do you know if we are able to request for another teacher other than the one that did the assessment? I noted there are 2 other teachers (male) for the preliminary class. Any idea if they are better?

Gosh, my gf used to send her dd to this branch but withdrew and sent her to Zoophonics when she did not show improvement. This gf recently enrolled her dd back in ICR but at TPY branch and within a few months, sees great improvement in her dd's reading skill.

            Did I make a wrong decision?!! 😢

Definitely ICR is a good way to learn to read. I think phonics is very powerful.

Last time my gal at ICR BTP and I oso not so impress with the teacher style. Just coz Ang moh and native teacher, doesnt mean good right?
I feel progress very slow and no comms with me or my hubby about progress. I got tired and started shopping around. Also don’t want to waste my money so worry that ICR was a waste.
LCentral is downstairs, level 1 BTP. My gal is there now. She likes the lesson and I am happy making the switch.

Hi, we are all thumbs up for ICR programme…my girl is one example who had benefited from their phonics n reading programme…she was previously in ICR advanced reading class but now she is with lcentral PFS…we are very happy with her progress in lcentral…we are glad that at KI now, she has the chance to prepare for school and get expose to picture comp, listening compre etc…this had definitely helped her built her confidence and she is happy too…

Whenever someone asked us abt learning phonics, my dh will highly recommend ICR first…probably my girl was also lucky to hv a good teacher during her 1 yr plus in ICR…Their phonics n reading programme are great…child can decode words easily n hv good listening skills too…this will helps them greatly later…

                    Hi,

I enrolled my 4 year old in the ICR program 6 months ago, will like to find out on average how long does it take for a child to be able to read independently (simple story book of say 5 sentences ? ) ? My daughter learns montessoric phonis in school since young , however when we enrolled her in ICR, the assessment test shows that she has to be enrolled in the class (can’t rem the name) prior to the preliminary class , which we did. 3 months in to the class, and they tested her and she was promoted to her current class. I went through her course book, still seeing them focusing on first sound and towards the back of the book, there are middle sounds etc … but nothing on blending which she already learnt last year in school.

Perhaps I am being anxious - but I can’t help but wonder if this is "too slow" ? My gal is able to read the Peter and Jane series book 1a, 1b and some pages of 2a, simple sentences (2-3 short ones). But definitely she won;t be able to read independently yet on other ladybird stories such as "red riding hood" or "goldilocks and the 3 bears".

                      hi,

I am not quite sure your kid is at which of the ICR programme. Do you mean the ICR curriculum, at the 1st of the 6 month, they will be taught at the basic sound, vowel and slowly blending.

If it referring to PRP, mostly at this stage they will be learning first, last sound and middle sound. If the teacher think that your child is ready within this period, they will promote her.

Be patient. Reading is a long process, especially for kids. I didn’t know ICR, but DD has been using the reading worksheet from beestar (http://www.beestar.org). They are full of interesting stories, vivid picture to help kids thinking. DD loves them very much. Beestar helps us a lot. Maybe you can have a rty.
