Just came across this thread and thought I'd share my experience here.

My K2 ds (he'll be in P1 next year) has been with ICR for about 1.5 years now. He progressed from TCS, then PRP and now in ICR program. So far, we have seen tremendous improvement.

He couldn't read at all when first joined. Now, he is able to read independently, and even able to spell new words just by listening, even though he has not seen them before.

Most importantly, he enjoys the lessons. I think that it is fortunate to have teachers (TCS- local malay teacher, PRP and ICR - native speakers) that relate to the students very well and are able to make the lessons fun and effective for them.
I have just signed up my girl for ICR in CCK, starting Jan 10. Will start with ICR book 6. Anyone have idea how long will this last before progree to the AWES program?

        Hi,

If i remember correctly for the ICR is a year programme. That mean your kid proficiency allow him to go into Book 6.

When i enquiry my kid’s centre, the staff told me it is advisable to let the children to complete the ICR first, before progress into AWE.

The teacher assess her, and he ask her to start with book 6, as in book 6 they will cover more on the grammar part and this will help her in her AWES. She can read independently, next year P1.

              Hi Trina

That’s exciting news may I know which center u sign up? Feed back how the class goes!
StayPositive thanks for sharing. Its very useful to have feedback like that. Reading is so important, its such a important life skill. I think to spend money on is a good invesment.

Honeybeel I have been reserching a lot on these programs. I think ICR Bk 6 suppose to last 6 months. More grammer and spelling than Bk1 to 5. After that ur child can go to AWES i think. But if ur child independent reader surely can go to exam program?

The teacher said she can actually go to the AWES class straight away if I want to. But I prefer her to go through book 6 first as I think she need to have more exposure to grammar. She always have spelling error in her work (guess her kindergarten phonics program not so strong). Anyway, her ICR teacher said if he find her ok, she will promote her to AWES earlier.

                  Hi Engkidz

I enrolled my girl for SL2 at LCentral in Bukit Timah Plaza. It's their newest centre. I like the fact that they cover everything from compo, compre, oral, grammar etc...and also have discussion sessions to get the kids talk about various subjects instead of just doing worksheets. In any case, the class only starts in Jan.Will keep you posted of her progress.

Thats good honeybeel at least they give u some options.

Trina my dd also in LCentral BT but only holiday program as I want to see how she fairs. Her last day tomorrow and so far so good. Seems teacher give her a technique to write compo. Of course still not perfect but she is correcting herself now and come home with many new words to use. Im impress by the standerd of writing.
Anyway I think I will "take the plunge" and enrol her inthe Jan Success course. She seems to like the class and teacher too.

                      Hi Honeybees,

Mostly for the ICR teacher, they do not penalised he child for the spelling error. Their objective is ensure they can read at the end of the programme. That is the reason they are more focus on the phonics and sound.

Yes, that's the reason why I want to enrol her in the ICR before proceed to AWES. When come to new words, she do not have the confident to sound the words especially those long words.
