      Hi,

My dd is currently at book 2 ICR level. Every week, the kids are asked to study spelling. May I know how did you teach your kid spelling? Doesn’t the teacher at this stage teach them to decode and spell the words? I did ask her teacher previously and the advice was to write the words few times and she will progressively learn to spell the words.

My kid is oso on Book 2. I din speak to the teacher but I asked my kid to write the words many times so that he can remb. I tried to decode but as my phonics is not up the mark...i cant help him much on this. The weekly list is long, he cant remb everything. So, if he noe how to deocde, it would be easier....

Hmm… thought the purpose of sending the kids to ICR is to learn how to decode , read unfamiliar words and spell them too. If the kids learn spelling by memorising, it defeats the purpose of sending them there.

              Hi Rubberpink,

Thank you for the information that you had posted on the 02nd Jul 12 and I feel very sorry for your experience.

My children has been with I Can Read at Bukit Timah and all three of them have enrolled there for some time now and I believe I know who you are referring to. This Filipino girl that you are referring to, happened to serve me and my three children and I find that she has been most accommodating and is always willing to help when I need it.

There were times that I had to call up because I was late from picking up my girls and she has always assured me that my daughters are taken cared for. My last incident when I had an accident while rushing over from work and was almost an hour and a half late from picking up my boy, the girls at the desk took the initiative to call me and asked if they could give him something to eat as he was complaining of being hungry.

I think that they have done a wonderful job and have gone above and beyond their call of duty to make sure that the children there are cared for and I am most grateful for their hard work and care for my children.

My advice to you, is not to condemn anyone or I Can Read over an experience. Let’s give them a chance for I believe that it could have been busy on that day and they have not eaten anything. They are humans after all so let’s try to be as well.

Trust in God and let’s learn to forgive and forget.

                Hi,

My DS just being promoted to ICR level. I was told currently no available class for him. The one going to start soon already full. The other new slot do not have enough students to form. They have putting my DS in wait list. I would like to check usually how long it takes to form a class? Since it is a year long structured course, does that mean a max. No. Of students are needed before the class commence?

I was with a cranky little ones around therefore not convenient to check further. Moreover, the 2 receptionist are new, they looked blur… (just 2nd weeks with the centre).

                Appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

Hi, my son just attended 6 lessons of ICR at tampines and out of the 6 lessons, the last 2 lesson, the teacher is absent and replacement teachers are assigned tp teach the kids. During the last lesson, i asked my son what was he taught and he says each kids are asked to read the passage only. Very upset with this as there are no continuity in the teaching and there are no spelling too as the teachers are not the same. Does anyone faced the same situation?

                    Hi Lovinglife

Not sure which branch your child is with? The other time when my girl was promoted from PRP to ICR, she had to wait about 3 lessons before the new class starts. For our branch (Rivervale), I think the teachers do ‘make sure’ that there are a sufficient number of students to form a new class, before promoting.

                      Hi steffi88,

We are with Goldhill branch. I have just found out from the centre that 8 students are needed before class commencing. 3 lessons aka 3 weeks' wait wasn't too long. Did you just wait at home or continue with PRP till the class was ready? Is your girl still with ICR?

                        Hi Lovinglife

We continue with PRP cos we didnt want my girl to lose touch with the blending. My girl has since promoted from ICR. She is now with Comprehension & Creative Writing. She is not able to join the P1 syllabus yet as she is in K2 this yr. My boy is currently with PRP though.
