jedamum's How to check my chances of getting a school?

qms:
Good suggestion.
Bukit Timah Primary School? :scratchhead:wyou:
Hi!
My dd was born in 2008. May I know how to plan 2nd choice school? Choose a less popular school or further distance from address? Hoping to get in to SCGS. Schools around that area eg. RGS, nanyang..are popular too. How to have backup plan? Tks! -
Just wait for a while there may be some changes in P1 registration.

not sure if i get your question correct, but if dont want to do PVs and no alummni links and did not join clans, the registration year of the kid is the year the kid is 6yrs old (eg this year's registration is for 2006 kid). even if want to do pv or alumni links or join clans, registration yr is still the same, although they may want to link up with the schs/clans earlier to get the relevant documentation in place. -

Thanks... I thought no need to PVs, or join any clans, have to go que in waiting list. Then we no need to so kancheong register our kid when 4 yrs old.Oppsgal:

can I ask this question if a child did not get into the school under phase 2c...
and I want my child to be enrolled in that school by all mean .
What can be done?
My frend suggested that \"Ask president to call the principal up(if u know the president personally) or pass the school a letter from President , may still got 1% chance, is this true?????\" :scratchhead: -
Wiser,
I am not sure about the chances of getting into your school of choice via pulling strings, but if you have strings to pull and does not mind pulling them, no harm done to go and try out. Just don’t break any law. Even if it could not get you your seat immediately , who knows if it may expedite your wait list position as there is no proven fix first come first serve queuing system for wait list.
The best chance of trying to get into school of choice is to prepare your kid well academically, cca niche which the choice school specialise in while you put yourself on wait list. What I gather is that there are two window of opportunities , one at end p2 when there is an increase in class size in p3 and one at end p3 when there are out going gep students for non gep schools. On and off when you update the school of your kids progress, they may keep in view your application as and when there are outgoing transfer student.
Good luck. -

oh..... that's why people say may need to wait three years... (the window at end p3 when there are out going gep students for non gep schools)....Wiser,

Hi
I have few sch options in mind for my ds. Which is better since we can only register for 1 primary sch at a time ?
1. The sch is 1 blk behind my blk. Should I try for pv since is already so near my blk?
2. The sch is within 1km from my hse , will submit for pv.
3. Hb’s ex primary sch is also within 1km from my house. But I not so keen in this sch as compared to 1st n 2nd above. -
bel_vodka:
To choose which depends on your risk appetite and also the balloting history of the first two schools. As well as the phase 2c supplementary vacancies of the school nearest to you, whether u will be again subject to balloting at p2cs stage should you be unlucky in both phase 2b and 2c.Hi

Hi,
sorry to ask, but according to previous ballot stats, what does APP and TUR mean under the didfferent phase? can someone enlighten me on how to read the stats? thanks! -
Stinzy:
APP - Take-up rate for that particular phase only. So, let's say for P2A2, APP refers to the take-up rate only for P2A2, divided by the number of vacancies available only for that phase.Hi,

TUR - cumulative take-up rate. Again, taking the example of P2A2, TUR refers to the number of places taken up in Phase 1+Phase 2A1+Phase 2A2, divided by the TOTAL number of vacancies available for the school's yearly registration. -
Hi qms,
We have been doing PV for a popular school and moved to within 1 km of the school. The school is so popular that even PV within 1 km may also need to ballot.
We have decided that if we do not get a place at P2B ballot, we will try again at P2C. But if we really so suay, and don’t get a place again at P2C ballot, may I ask what will happen then? Will my child just be assigned to any school within the area that still has vacancies? Or can I try to “salvage the situation” by appealing to my alma mater that is more than 2 km away, provided that it still has vacancies then?
Thanks in advance! -

If you fail at P2B and P2C, you will have to join P2CS for schools that have vacancies left. After securing a seat at P2CS, you can apply for transfer to your alma mater... which will then bring to question, why won't you apply for it in the first place at P2A2?Hi qms,

Hi Floppy,
Thanks for your reply. My alma mater is an “English” school, but we prefer to have our child grow up in a Mandarin environment, hence the priority. -
earl_grey,
But you do know that if you give up your privilege as an alumni at 2A2, you will be treated as a non-alumni applicant at 2Cs? By then, your alumni status doesn’t matter anymore. -
Hi rains, thanks for your reply. I am aware of that, thus need to weigh all pros and cons carefully.
