hi stsl.If I am correct, for other cca, can only change beginning of each year but once u join uniform group, then cannot change because they will reset yr cca point.. I saw from some other tread. Correct me if I am wrong.
Nothingtodo, yr kid sec 1 is it? How is he coping?
yup my kids is in sec 1. well she enjoy it very much, TF is a nice lady.
how abt urs? -
nothing2do:
DD also likes school, saw her timetable very busy, comes home later than other classes in most days, so hoping she choose a cca that is not so hectic one.. Not sure if they can cope with so many subjects.

Yes, I am sure sports and band will take up a lot of practice time, Especially when there is competition on, GG actually not bad but my girl had lousy experience with brownie plus she heard GG quite boring, so may be she wanna go for NPCC which will require marching in hot sun? Haha, so end up shecwill be charcoal also lah…

My girl is interested in Choir. I thought it may be boring and not much to learn. Does it take up a lot of time? what’s the CCA points prospect?
Any advice? -
stsl:
Haha nope. I'm from another school. Just trying to help abit. Actually, every single cca is good, as long as he/she is willing to put in time and effort into it. And regarding the changing CCA part, it is not really advisable as from what i know, your CCA points will be resetted, no matter what CCA it is. Best would be for him/her to choose by themselves as they will have to stick with it for another 4 years.
Many thanks, Blablah. Wondering if you are from CCHS and it is good to see that someone can give some advice to all sec 1 and their clueless parents.blahblah:
St john is a cca that teaches you first aid, discipline, and builds teamwork among their members. They will also attend many camps, some of which are leadership camps. At least for my school, it is organised mostly by the seniors and teachers aren't really involved in it except that they occassionally drop by to see.
Girl guides is quite a relaxing cca compared to the rest of the ugs such as ncc, npcc. Check out http://www.girlguides.org.sg/
Npcc is quite a good cca since you learn a lot of stuffs others won't really get a chance to try. Check out http://www.npcc.gov.sg/
So, can I say that it is fair chance for any uniform group to get good CCA points compare to club and societies since they basically engaged in many actiivities, DD is now quite interested in NPCC, just wondering if it will take up 2 days of staying back in school and long hours of marching?
Guess next Saturday, the CCA day, we would have to check it out at different CCA booths and consider properly as I heard that you are not allow to change CCA if you join UG. -

However, if you change CCAs out of Band, NPCC, NCC, all your CCA points will be resetted to 0. This does not apply for other UGs. However, I strongly advise against changing CCA because you may have to reset your CCA points (for the above-mentioned CCAs), and it reflects pretty badly on a person to change CCAs just because he/she just detests his/her CCA. And yes, the best idea will be to let your child decide his/her CCA and encourage him/her to stick with it for the entire 4 years.

Personally, I would suggest Scouts/Guides. Scouting and Guiding in Secondary School is TOTALLY different from that in primary schools. You can trust me on that. NPCC is quite interesting too. You learn a lot from these CCAs, like outdoor cooking, survival skills, map reading and geography stuff, foot drills, physical training. It's really all rounded.
Good luck to your DD/DS in getting into the CCA of their choice -

did the teacher tell ur DD sch start wat time on monday? my DD say teacher nvn inform leh. but timetable is 1st box is emtpy. a few of the student posted in FB saying good monday start late. but we not so sure, so i send her to sch at 7.30am. just incase. heehee. when reach sch see no cars, haha. DD so happy.
yes i went for the orientation. but i think they aren't very well prepare for the orientation leh. Talk parent and CCA orientation together, talk already taken up so much time, where got time to go round looking at the cca with the kids. Rem last yr my elder DD sch did a parent night at the end of their orientation night. and CCA day was on another sat. which i feel is better, at least got more time to look around. actually when the posting day i already feel this sch nvn do a good welcome. hahaha.
did they give out letter to inform parent to go at 8.30am? i didnt receive anything , heehee. i only get to know on friday night when i sign in the sch website. but DD know she hv to be in sch before 8.50am. DD choosing Softball. what abt urs? -
Yes, the talk was so long until I came out to see the CCA at 12.15pm, most booths have packed up and go home.. :stupid:
So, we only see Some uniform group. DD choosed GG, net ball the volley ball. Not sure what is soft ball lei? No time to find out more as we were retained by the HOD to talk further on her class programe, I also feel that the school should do these on separate days.. Too many things in half a day. I am going for this sat parent workshop too, u going ? -
No, u mean the humanities talk?
-
nothing2do:
No, u mean the humanities talk?
Yes, that's right, not sure what to expect for these subjects, so I will just go and listen. Understand this is yr DD2 and yr DD1 is in sec 2, so I guess u know what to expect, haha.. -
stsl:
haha. actually i also not very sure, but will get my DD1 to guide. Looking at all the meeting and the event they hold, i don't quite hv confident with the presentation they doing. Maybe DD1 their sch did everything in a more systematic way. hahahanothing2do:

hi, anyone can tell me, does cchms student need to report to sch very offen for sat?
-
why sch need the student to carry transparent pencil case for exam?
-
nothing2do:
hi nothing2do,
why sch need the student to carry transparent pencil case for exam?
i thot it's rather common to have clear pencil case or clear ziploc for stationery during exams??
my gal had been doing so during her primary school's exams.
so as the invigilators can see clearly what are the contents in pupils' pencil cases.
