I have heard of a student who was invited for EAE interview at one of the polys, when asked which choice was this poly’s diploma was ranked, the student mentioned that it was the third. Then when the interviewer heard that, he/she did not proceed anymore with the interview, telling the student that they are done with him/her. It doesn’t seem like the institutions know the order of the choices. Can this be possible? Otherwise, if they know, then why bother to invite the student for interview and shut him/her up after the first question, only to waste everyone’s (both they and the interviewee) time?

The institution doesn’t know the order so as to assess each applicant fairly.

While the question seems a bit harsh, and the interviewer a little bit brutal, the interviewee could have tried to be a bit more tactful and put in a few ‘saves’ in his answer. Imagine being at Microsoft for a job interview and telling the interviewer that you actually prefer Mac.

Both were called for their respective first choices and not called even for an aptitude test for their second choices. If the polys don't know the choices, then how to account for this?

Different candidates.

Unless your son and his son have exactly the same results, same CCA, same profile - then it has been assessed that your son meets the profile of the candidate that they are looking for in course A while his friend meets for course B.

Both have the same CCA, probably a similar profile. Both courses are similar, but not the same. If they met the criteria for one course, they should have met the criteria for the other course also.


In fact, my son was called for an interview for a course he has no experience in (like CCA and other external interests), but this course where he didn't get called for the aptitude test, his CCA is what they look for and his interests also align to this course.

No idea how this works, though if we had known in advance that the poly would only call for one course per student, we would have used up our slot for another poly (similar course) and not wasted one chance.

There's nothing we can do at this point, but perhaps other parents can take note of this. Though I must say it's not the same with all polys. My DD applied to another poly for two courses and has been called for an interview to both very different courses (those were her second and third choices btw)
