In today's ST papers, there is a special which list out the

scholarships offered by various govt/private agencies. One of the main
criterion stated was 'Good leadership qualities and CCA track record'.
So I guess besides participating in CCA, our kids need to hold a leadership
      post in it too.

Yup, I wonder too and CCA track record ?. :?

Does it mean that they have to earn medals/break records etc to be
          seriously considered?
I guess some community work involvement and even short stints overseas to do volunteer work eg building schools, toilets, housing etc.
I know some schools do organise overseas missions for their students as
part of CIP programme. Perhaps that will look good in their credentials.

Basically, companies want to avoid those who joined a CCA just because they have to so that the teachers won’t fail them/bug them about it. These students will end up being sleeping members. If I were the employer, I wouldn’t want them either.

Sometimes, it’s really difficult to be in a leadership position not because the students are are not good enough but because there are too many people vying for a few good posts. So in order to get a better CCA record, the more conscientious students will find other ways, e.g., taking part in competitions, doing CIP outside of school (i.e., not within school’s jurisdiction but done voluntarily by students) and even those who get the leadership positions, they may want to be better than their predecessors and so will initiate new "projects", etc.

But if the student is already in a performing group, there is no way to be a sleeping member cos if you don’t turn up for practices and performances, you’re out. So in these cases, the student has to do more to shine.

Is it ? Sorry I did not know the system.

I thought once you join any CCA and as long you join for 4 years with more than 75% attendance without quiting , you will minus 2 points for JC entrance, no ?

So, how exactly does this CCA point system works ?

                  Thanks

Now it’s the new LEAPS system.

If you only fulfill the participation requirements of your CCA, you will probably be a borderline pass case.

                    If I recall correctly:
L - Leadership (prefect, committee role in CCA, class chairman, etc)
E - ENRICHMENT (THIS IS WRONG: Sorry can’t rmb at the moment but I think it’s Experience (camps, etc))
                    A - Achievement (win awards/competition)
P - Participation (CCA participation or events participation)
S - Service (Community Involvement Programme - CIP)

Sorry, I am not sure if every secondary school has the same system or not. To qualify for the 2 points for JC entrance, you actually need a cumulation of 21 points over 4 years.

                      for eg:
                      a. taking part in a inter-school competition and getting a gold = 2 points
                      b.CIP :every 10 hours = 1 point
                      c. for uniformed groups, each ranking will also be given points (LCP, CP,SGT etc)
So over the 4 years, all these accumulated points will be added up and
matched against the schools’ CCA system.
So if your CCA is those non-competitive and ‘quiet’ ones, you may need
to see what other areas you need to do to chock up to 21 points.

Don’t worry, on your child’s school briefing, the CCA HOD will explain
in detail what are the criterion.

For me last time, i guess librarian and art society...

i would deem to be the easiest. I get to be in the
environment with the pleasant scent of books and
more books. It's like killing two birds with one stone
when i get to help with the book arrangement system
and get lotsa reading done at the same time! 😉

As for art society, we get to fine tune our drawing/
painting/craft skills and get to do well in art exams.
                        And plus, no stress.

My DD1 is in art cca too... and she loves it! 😄
