Secondary School CCA
-
Thanks csc and schellen for your explanation.
My son is very enthusiastic being in the band despite the tiring marching under the hot sun so I guess it’s half a battle won.
I must agree that interest should come first then will they stay committed. -

If the child is already in the 6 year IP program in secondary school, is the CCA important?. Since there is no JC admission required they do not need the two bonus points for the CCA. So can they stay as a recreation member in the team.
I share the same question too. Someone seemed to say it will then be for them to prepare for uni enrolment, turure scholorship and award. But not sure how true it is or if anyone know of any official website that publish this criteria.
Similarly, does it mean the IP students who will not be doing 'O' level will not have to take 'o'level Chinese at sec three? What if an IP student fail HCL in sec 4? -

In today's ST papers, there is a special which list out the
scholarships offered by various govt/private agencies. One of the main
criterion stated was 'Good leadership qualities and CCA track record'.
So I guess besides participating in CCA, our kids need to hold a leadership
post in it too. -

Wonder how good is \"Good\" :? :lol:In today's ST papers, there is a special which list out the

Yup, I wonder too and CCA track record ?. :?
Does it mean that they have to earn medals/break records etc to be
seriously considered?
I guess some community work involvement and even short stints overseas to do volunteer work eg building schools, toilets, housing etc.
I know some schools do organise overseas missions for their students as
part of CIP programme. Perhaps that will look good in their credentials. -
Basically, companies want to avoid those who joined a CCA just because they have to so that the teachers won’t fail them/bug them about it. These students will end up being sleeping members. If I were the employer, I wouldn’t want them either.
Sometimes, it’s really difficult to be in a leadership position not because the students are are not good enough but because there are too many people vying for a few good posts. So in order to get a better CCA record, the more conscientious students will find other ways, e.g., taking part in competitions, doing CIP outside of school (i.e., not within school’s jurisdiction but done voluntarily by students) and even those who get the leadership positions, they may want to be better than their predecessors and so will initiate new "projects", etc.
But if the student is already in a performing group, there is no way to be a sleeping member cos if you don’t turn up for practices and performances, you’re out. So in these cases, the student has to do more to shine. -
What is the easiest & most switch off CCA for secondary schools ?
Thanks -
and these will give you the lowest CCA points also
