Just kpo a bit. Anyone in the situation of T-scores much higher than COP and choose the school because of whatever reasons (love at first sight, the uniform, the culture, environment ...) ?

Eg. T-score 250, choose and get in a school of COP 240. πŸ˜„

        Hi 25hourmaid,

Thanks for all your hard work. Need you to update RGS COP. Know of someone who entered at 259 !!! Not sure if there is any lower entry T-score.

        Cheers! :celebrate:
I don't think its via Central Posting. Probably via DSA.

            Just Mama:
this is a very helpful thread, wish i had joined earlier...

May i seek adv from you all -- NJC vs Dunman High, which would be a better choice?
Hi just mama, why don't you look at the NJC and DHS thread in another topic to find out more before you decide - > http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewforum.php?f=39&sid=45e25622b4ccef979e62106fd1d3c65b

NJC only has one year track record but DH has many years of track records. Both offer IPs (η›΄ι€šθ½¦) programs. Secondly, DH is SAP school so HMT learning is traditionally stronger. Thirdly, distance from your home is also important. Fourthly, competition is tougher among the cohort in DH (more intake). So for me really both are equal except for second, third and fourth points. Of course on a minor note, someone mentioned in this thread somewhere that NJC staff is not courteous.

I only visited DH Open House so cannot say much about NJC. For DH I am impressed with the courteous staff.

                25hourmaid:
Way2Go, yes, please verify, but someone could be right to say was wait-listed for DSA. Meanwhile, I am sticking to 257 till someone can confirm someone with 256 got into HCI.
Cfm today with HCI staff that official COA this year is 257.

pssst. Case of 256, not DSA entry. I didn't pursue and let's leave it at that. πŸ˜‰

Went to Bukit Panjang Govt High registration for my son this morning. Briefing by the headmaster indicated COP for this year as 241, with a mean score at 245, but the highest score was not given. Just to share with all…

                      Hi Guys,

Can help me. My son got posted to Temasek and appealed successfully at Maris Stella. NOw, I 'm confuse which school to choose. Is Marris Stella better than Temasek. Anyone have opinion on these 2 school ?

                      Thank You
                      JJtrue
Maris Stella was founded more than 50 years ago and has a relatively long tradition. Throughout the year, the kids will be busy (including the 1-week break), but at the end of the year, holiday starts early and the kids are given little homework.

The people at the school are friendly, although they can be pretty strict about certain academic policy. For example, there is a subject combination streaming exercise for Sec 3 at the end of Sec 2. If the boy wants to take triple Science for 'O' level, he has to get 70% and above for Maths, Science and overall average. If the child is poor at Art or some specific subject, he has to figure out how to pull up his overall average with another subject. It can be stressful. I don't know why the school limits the number of Pure Science classes.

Personally, I like the Macbook program launched by the school. I don't have to worry about virus for one thing. A Macbook will set you back by about S$2.7K. It comes with a 4-year warranty. The only additional items I chose to get for my son were Adobe CS4 Suite ($99 for MOE student) and a Samson C03U mike ($201 - strongly believed I paid too much).
The school provides Ebooks for most of the textbooks so far, and that means the child does not have to carry too many physical textbooks.

They learn to use iMovie, GarageBand, Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Fireworks, besides the usual MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). The boys are given projects to work on that would give them opportunities to leverage the software skills they have acquired. If the child makes an effort to work on all the projects seriously, he can learn to appreciate the features and concepts of these software.

With a Mac, one can also learn Unix and PHP Programming. PHP and Apache are preinstalled on the Mac OS and can be turned on easily. It is also easy to download Mysql database and install it on the Mac. So if the child wants to learn Unix and PHP Programming, he can do it easily on his own with the Mac.

Nope. It's via central posting. :D[/quote]Maybe, it's not via Central Posting but via the Supplementary Intake? There are certain number of vacancies that schools can keep for its Supplementary Intake. Usually, one will not be able to know if his application is successful at this point unless his T-score is so high that the school decides to confirm him right away. However, if he has certain track record in achievement that the school deems desirable, the rules may be bent, I think.

I've known of a few cases in the past 2 years where HCI confirmed students who applied immediately after the release of their PSLE results, which ranged between 24something to 25something. I have no idea on what basis HCI has offered them the places.
