How many times are upper secondary pupils tested for the O level SPA? I heard that it is twice for some SPA components? Some schools send their Sec 3 pupils for the O level SPA this November while other schools do not. Does it mean that those which do not will have their pupils sit for the SPA twice next year? The average marks will be included in the respective subject of the O level exam?

Any information will be appreciated. Thank you.
      Hi

FYI, students are assessed in SPA thrice and can be done through
      sec 3 and 4.
some schools who feels students are prepared already may assess in sec 3. while others leave all three assessments in sec 4.

the total SPA exams weigh 20% of o level. of which 7.5% will come from each of the 1st two assessments, totalling 15%. the last 5% will come from the 3rd assessment which is more of planning experiments. all this info should be available on the seab website together with the syllabus info.

Hi all parents in the forum,

Can I seek your advice is Science is standard syllabus for all secondary school express stream secondary 1 students. ( not referring to IP of GEP students, not referring to students in the top rank schools in 4 year express course that may join IP program type of students)

My boy is very weak and I am trying to search for a tutor for him to teach him one to one for secondary 1 science to help him have a headstart.

Please help… any parents who can give me the contact of a one to one tutor who teaches in the home in the EAST or marine parade.

        Thank you very much

Hi. The Secondary 1 Science syllabus is supposed to be the same. However different schools cover the chapters at different times. Different schools also cover the chapters to varying degrees of depth. So its not very consistent across all schools.

I have found that the majority of schools start with physics and move to chem/bio later in the year. So most important for the majority of students is to get that good foundation in physics and chemistry particularly. I find most students find bio the easiest.

I run a Sec 1 Holiday class that starts Thurs Dec 5. It's in the Ang Mo Kio area though. The focus is on building the foundations so that they get a head start for the year ahead.

Thank you for replying to my message. In fact I have been reading your posting on kiasuparents website and found your advice very useful. Few teachers are willing to share valuable info like yourself.

Sadly we live in marine parade and I cannot drive that’s why even though I heard about your fantastic class and visited your website, I am unable to send my boy to your class … sigh… the students staying near to your centre will surely benefit !!

I am looking for a Physic and Chemistry home tutor in West (Bukit Panjang, Bukit Batok, Chua Chu Kang) for my daughter at Sec 3 this year.
Prefer A level or undergrade female students who went through IP program.

                Thanks

My DD is in Sec 1 this year in Express stream. They do not have any Science Text book cos their school provide them with Science note. But I still would like her to do some Science Assessment during her free time.

Anyone can recommend me any which assessment to purchase.

                    Thanks in advance.

I am doing reasonably ok, even though I don't have tuition. Haha. But if you are really looking for one, I tink Dr Daniel is the best tutor around! The answers that he has posted are really good!!! I hv frends attending tuition by Ms Loi and other so called top 5 tutors. They ain't exactly doing fantastic.

Hello... I have been using these two books recommended by my skool teachers:
                        1) Pearson 1001 MCQs Physics
                        2) Smashing Exams Physics and Chemistry

The 1001 MCQs offer a lot of difficult qns to practise. It has full solutions too.

The Smashing Exams series has a lot of notes and examples and practices, that make studying easy. My seniors hv relied heavily on it too.
