Hi, the Science teacher at Holland V is actually at Pandan Valley. I sent my son for 1 year but his Science results got worse. He went from a B to an F. I don't doubt it worked for Julia but was a very wrong fit for my son & I took too long to take him out. My son said the teacher uses a Marshal Cavendish assessment book. I personally found her style to be way too relaxed. My son needs pushing - firm yet caring, attentive, encouraging & really detailed tutors.
The mums I know who are very driven & aim very high for their sons to go to RI & ACSI's IB program all send their sons to The Learning Lab for Science. I, on the other hand, am trying to put my son in a small group tuition class. The right tutor & environment has worked well for my son's Maths. I hope to do the same for his Science. As time is running out I plan to study with him too. Crossing my fingers! -

Any feedback on The Pique Lab?
Let me share my 2 cents here. Their materials are visually pleasing and I guess this is the first point of attraction for the children. They come with their standard template of answering questions which I think I found is good for the children for reference.
However, there was an occasion where my child uses their standard template and only got half the mark. Her school teacher told her that keyword is missing from the answer. I believe piquelab is still new and in the process of collating standard answers from students schools exam papers and build their experience, since none of the founders are NIE trained school teachers. I told my child to just use combine whatever points that both the school and piquelab gave. ( I am not sure about the keywords too
)
There is a boy in her class that didnt pass his tests and SA 1 since he joined (the boy join for about 8 months when I asked him, joined for all the extra holiday programs like the CCI). There are also pupils who did fairly well in their exams. I think students diligence and parents help are still essential in the child's journey. Cannot totally depend on the tuition centres.
With the class size of 12 or 13, i think it wont be very helpful if your child is weak and hope for miracles. It will still be beneficial if your child is average and can survive in a big classroom setting (13 to me is not an encouraging number). The class fees are not cheap at $280 and is paid by per term. There was 2 occasions when the teacher cannot answer my child's questions on that topic that he is teaching and went to search for the internet for the answers. I found that unacceptable.

My boy is currently under a private tutor and is improving a lot. He's been with her for about 1 year now and his results has been improving steadily from borderline pass last year, he can score A now. She's also teaching my siblings children and they have also been improving, really glad i found her.She teaches only science and i'm not sure whether she travels out far because me and my siblings all live in bukit panjang area.
She provides her own notes, worksheets and mindmaps and sometimes even do simple science experiments with my kid so he really loves her lesson. Science experiment really takes up a lot of time but he got better concept of the topic after the experiments.
Can pm me the contact too? thanks! -

Hi,
My DD is weak with P6 Science Open-ended questions (Paper 2).
I would like to find an enrichment class to help her in this area.
I came across this center The Pique Lab Learning Centre (located at Serene Centre) and they offer P6 2017 CCI
Science Course @ $598. (http://pslescienceworkshop.com/)
I want to check if anyone had sent their kid for the above class and would like to seek their frank feedback about this center.
Or do you have any other recommendation. Thanks in advance. -

Personally feel that $600 for 3 days is abit too pricey. If you will like to try, I would recommend my dd's ex tutor. She has her own way of teaching examination techniques to answer science structured questions (my dd told me that she focuses on training students to answer in a logical, \"step-by-step\" manner, and not fully relying on answer sheets). Didn't fully understand what my dd was implying, but she did quite well for Science then. Her number is 93989072 (Miss Goh). She only offers tuition in Jurong West I think (that one can ask her, not too sure). I think my dd monthly tuition fee from Pri 5 to Sec 4 has never exceeded $600..Hi all,

The fear of regret can make people behave irrationally. It is often exploited in marketing using a \"last chance\" or \"limited time\" offer.
Examples:
1/ A travel brochure offers \"the last chance to see a snow leopard before the species is extinct\". If you never cared about a snow leopard before you read the travel brochure, why would you fly all the way to Central Asia just to see one now? It is irrational.
2/ Singaporeans's favorite: Let's say you long dreamed of owning a condo penthouse. After working for 30 years, you now have the money. A new sea-side development comes up. The real estate broker pitches \"Land in Singapore is getting scarce. Prices are going up.\" On the 1st day of launch, the real estate broker texts you incessantly: three penthouses ..... then two remain ....... and now just one. It's your last chance! This thought racing through your head, you give in and buy the last unit at a ridiculously exorbitant price. The fear of regret tricks you into believing that this was a onetime offer, when in reality, penthouses with a sea view are available at other developments, and will always come onto the market. \"Last chances\" make us panic-stricken, and the fear of regret can overwhelm even the most hardheaded deal makers.
To do well in Science Paper 2 requires quite a bit of innate ability, content knowledge and process skills. If a kid can improve in 3 days, he/she won't need help at all in the first place.
Be careful of marketing gimmick and pressure sales technique.[/quote]Truly agree that 3 days are too short to create miracles. Those workshops are probably more useful for students who are slightly above average. That's why during that time, I opt for long-term tuition for my dd. More money spent definitely, but the result is more practical I feel.
