• RE: Unity Primary

Let me share some views here on unity primary.

My children can get into nan hua primary in Phase 2A, but we choose to enrol them in unity primary school which is right across our home. We contemplated this decision over the years leading to the P1 registration. The journey to nanhua will mean less quality sleep for both adults and children while UPS is so convenient, especially true when the kids have to stay back for CCA or extra lessons where I can just pop by to pass them lunch if needed.

For nanhua, we feel that parents who send their kids there generally have higher expectations of their children and it can be a pressure cooker environment for kids who cannot fit in the fast paced curriculum. We decide to let our children live a happier childhood by sending them to UPS and at the same time, we decided to be more hands on and be involved in their education journey.

Parents’ support and involvement play a very important part in the kids journey. We would rather be parents involved in the children’s education journey in a neighbourhood school than to be parents who relied on teachers 100% in a good primary school. We knew of a classmate who transferred to nan hua primary after GEP test and barely scraped through 250 in his psle.

The harnessing support given in Unity Primary is definitely in place and they are doing it right.

Most of the teachers we have encountered in UPS are very passionate about teaching and we are really thankful for them, especially Teachers like Mdm Han, Mdm Tee, Mr Kelvin Ng, Mrs Dawn (just to name some of them). They are really gems in the industry who are always there to give the students their unwavering support. Additional lessons were held leading to major exams, with special mention to Mdm Han giving extra boost before the chinese psle by conducting extra class for the children on a friday, the weekend before the chinese psle.

My children were happy in UPS and this will be part of a memorable piece of their childhood. They have recently graduated, one scoring above 250 and the other above 260.

Anyone knows if the HMT olevel programme is well supported by school?

What is the mean score of students in cgs?

      Thanks

Has anyone tried Pique Lab? Are they good?

I gave up on piquelab after the teacher couldnt answer my child's questions on adaption and need to send the question to the boss during lesson time who wasnt very sure and says get back to my child and ask my child to go google search for answer to find out more. One of the answering technique which my child follows in test got 1 mark deducted because school teacher says one point missing. The fees are expensive with 10+ students in a class. premium price tag with mediocre teachers. Class control is another problem as that class is usually chatty. My child couldnt focus in class and withdraw.
On the 22nd dec, reporting time is 830am. Anyone knows what time will the event ends?

Just purely registration and purchasing of textbooks and uniform? Thanks in advance!!

moment3w3, welcome to our Hwa Chong family!

Based on past years' experience, most students only have to register and purchase items. I don't recall a fixed ending time, once everything was bought we could just go off, although there were some people who also decided to look around the school.

      Hi Moment3w3,
My Son getting into HCI next year too. I was told that it will take approximately 1 hour for registration, buying of books and uniforms in the school book shop (popular). I already bought the school uniforms and secondary 1 books. Just to avoid the crowd on 22 Dec. The Aunty in the bookshop help in getting the right sizes etc. Bought 3 sets of uniforms and 3 sets of PE attire. They accept credit card, nets and cash. Total of secondary 1 textbooks and uniforms about $380.. hope that helps...books are really heavy though so do bring along help.
Thanks!! We were looking around for schools after my child scored unexpectedly beyond expectation. Hwa chong is the only school that open its doors on a friday afternoon and even station boys to bring us around.

Btw my son scored 262+2. Can i just put HCI as the only choice without a 2nd choice? Is the grade a safe one?

Hi ricvon, yup. I think the P and VP are very warm people, who are seriously trying to help. I will leave the final decision to my child. SST is also our only CO. But my child wasnt quite "sold" by the class activities today. Have a feeling he will not take on the offer.

      Thanks everyone for the sharing.

Mqjust- the extra warmth and care by the teachers was indeed a morale booster.
