I do not know any MO private teacher. Tho remembered once a member 'violinlover' (?? Not sure) mentioned knowing someone who is a MO teacher. Which level I'm not sure.
That's quite an achievement!dazzlego:

Yes he did. NMOS, SMOPS, RIPMWC, Mathlympics etc, usually silver.
Actually I asked this question cos a tutor has repeatedly asked DS to take up his sch Maths tuition despite knowing I'm only keen for MO type classes. So I was curious, is SMO really so similar to Sch syllabus? For Pri, it is different. Looks like sec level also different. Looks like i will have to reject firmly. Thanks.
Yeah it's always different. Coz olympiad is more on thinking and school is more on solving.
If your DS is doing well in his school then u should put him into olympiad. Who knows he will represent Singapore to World Olympiad
Btw is there any private tutor specialized on MO (secondary level)? I would like to know too if there is.
For DS, not good enough for international but good enough for his parents.
Maths is his interest, so since we have the means, let him pursue. He has been attending MathsHub MO programme for last 2 years actually. Was planning to continue with MathsHub but that tutor kinda got me wondering. So now I know better. I shall reject that tutor & continue with MathsHub.
PS : that tutor teaches 2 subject, DS only took up one. So tutor was asking us to take up the other subject as well ie. Maths :skeptical:
Thanks for your response dazzlego. May I ask how old are you? You look like you enjoy Maths too :)
I am 22. And yes I enjoy maths very much, too much. I think I am going to marry maths later :scared:
I am good enough for my parents too, I think :imanangel:
And MathsHub was not a bad choice for MO
Wish u and yr DS a mathful year ahead!! :celebrate: -

Hi lotto,
Second question is abit complicated. Please check my work if there is any mistakes.lotto:
Hi! Would appreciate help with 2 Trig Qs. Solve:
1. cot(2y+10°)=-0.5
2. 2 sin y + 1 = 3/cosec^2 y
Thanks!
2 sin y + 1 = 3 sin^2 2y
2 sin y + 1 = 3 sin 2y sin 2y
2 sin y + 1 = 3 (2 sin y cos y) (2 sin y cos y)
2 sin y + 1 = 12 sin^2 y cos^2 y
2 sin y + 1 = 12 sin^2 y (1 - sin^2 y)
2 sin y + 1 = 12 sin^2 y - 12 sin^4 y
12 sin^4 y - 12 sin^2 y + 2 sin y + 1 = 0
Let x= sin y
12 x^4 - 12 x^2 + 2 x + 1 = 0
U can factorize it and get 4 value of x which will lead u to 4 value of y.
I am not sure about it. There must be wrong somewhere. Or maybe we need to try another substitution.
You read the question wrongly!
It is 3 / cosec^2 y not 3 / cosec^2 2y
So it would be as simple as this,
2 sin y + 1 = 3 sin^2 y
Let x= sin y
3x^2 - 2x - 1 = 0
(3x + 1) (x - 1) = 0
x = -1/3 or x = 1
sin y = -1/3 or sin y = 1
y = 360 - sin-1(-1/3) or y = 90
Good job! CHeers :celebrate:
Hi dazzlego,
Thanks for the correction.
I knew it :slapshead:
This carelessness won't leave me alone :frustrated: -
For proving angles, it will be better to make an angle to be alpha and start from there, that would actually have the same effect in using algebra to solve. For proving equation, starts from the theorem first (either tangent-secant theorem, intersecting chord theorem, etc)

hey ! i think this is really a good way for me to solve my math problems. i really have lots which i dont know how to do. hope u can help me!!
-
yup, this is a method which i have come up with and it could solve almost all the questions. you can send in your question to . That is a portal which i set up to help people solve question for free
or you can post here (i think should be ok?)
P.S: I have 4 years of teaching experience and currently looking for new students as my O level students going to graduate. if require my service, contact me through email or pm me for no. Result is proven with testimonials.
Thank you. -
Hi everyone,
I will try to post one question on every topics daily so that students could try them out. Detailed answers will be provided after 1-2 days and for those who can't wait for it, please send in your answer to to check your answer.
Stay tune on http://www.facebook.com/wanstuitiongrouppie or http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?f=85&t=41697&p=876976#p876976
Anyway, the first question has been up and it's on Geometric Proof. Do attempt it before looking at the answer.
Have fun in doing math
