All About A Levels

To gain entry into local unis, you just need to pass your second language.jtoh:
UAS counts only 3H2s + 1H1 + GP + PW. You can choose to add CL/HCL grades over and above these 6 subjects if they add to your overall UAS. Usually the difference is just a couple of points and only if you score an A.
I fail to see how CL/HCL grades add to UAS.
Does this mean a pass in CL/HCL would do?
CL/HCL is not computed into UAS. The only time it is computed is if by adding the score you actually improve your UAS score. That typically only happens if you score an A in CL/HCL and the addition to your UAS is only a couple of points. In other words, not much difference. And it is automatically computed for you.
So if your chinese is weak, just pass will do. Scoring a B makes not difference to your UAS. -

Dd will be taking HCL soon and her grades are Bs & Cs. -

Yes, PW remains.jtoh:
PW is still there? Bummer.
So how FM fit into the requirements of having 1 contrasting subject in the 4 core subjects? Will students who take FM be able to take only one more science, given that Math is compulsory?
If one takes MA, FM, Sc (CM or PH or BI), then the contrasting subject would be GEO or EC or other Arts/Humanities subject, depending on what the sch offers.
Did you attend a recent briefing in yr DD's school regarding this? -

My DS is also taking his HCL this year, just hoping for a pass, can never think of a A or B grade. -

What about? MT? As long as she can pass, it's OK. The bonus points for MT only apply for certain courses, as far as I know, and don't make that much of difference anyway. The stress should be the child's, not so much the parents'. -

Slmkhoo, I admire your ability to be detached from your DD's stress.
I wish to be the same but find it difficult. I agree - the stress lies in the students who take the exam but as a parent (especially if you are very concerned with their well being), don't you feel stressed when u see they are so stressed - mugging away n trying their best n feeling the uncertainties of whether they can do well.
I know my kids are workg very hard n they share with me their fears, concerns n worries. How not to feel stress???? -

We share the same sentiments. But we are not taking the exams. -
Hi, can I check regarding the contrasting subject, does it mean that if one takes math, F maths, Phy and econs, if he scores AAAB, does the uni UAS calculation takes the AAB grades as Econ is a contrasting subject and must be taken into account?
