And there was also one particular relative who has her ROM at a luxurious hotel - and of course must give quite big 'ang pow' lah since we are invited.

And now within half a year, she's going to have the traditional wedding dinner at another grand hotel! :moneyflies:

So the question again, how much should I give this time??? The usual or lesser since I've given once???

aiyo ... another case. I had heard of several similar cases of expat boss hooked up with some female colleague from this region. Some maintained as mistress, others ended up divorcing hometown wife and marrying colleague.

My DS 1 month celebration also at hotel.
Cousin family came in full force(3 grown boys). All we got was a spongy toy car...the type from $3 shop in the heartlands..
( remember the no flush toilet family )
                    :!:
Now I don't feel so bad. Thanks, auntieM!

Sorry...didn't read about your \"no flush toilet family\". Which thread is that?

DS' first-month dinner was held in a hotel restaurant.

We received $50 angpow from a family of 4...and the 2 kids are not baby/toddler kind, but full-grown late teens!!
Unlike wedding dinners where most young couples have to entertain the parents by having a full course chinese dinner, people tend to be more sympathetic and help to deflate the cost.

But for full-month celebration, shd remember you chose to celebrate...so it is not surprising that others do not wish to pay for or 'subsidize' you for what they would not have spend if given a choice, ya?

                        Anyone as blur as me?

Yesterday, I was about to give out another angpow. Thought it looked kind of thin. To my horror, I opened it and it was empty!
Now I wonder how many empty ones I gave out the day before??!!
Don't think I can salvage right?
