Most likely give wrongly. Hopefully the person intended for the $80 ang pow did not receive $4 one!!! Surely will suffer if it is MIL 😢

          Augmum:
          talking abt ang pows issues,

it'll be nice if my cousins are as \"considerate\" as u guys here.......
          u see.....they never know what is \"paiseh\"
our family's side, me , brother and sister, all of us only have 1 child
but my cousins' side all of them have 3 to 4 kids
and they are giving our kids $4 each, (all these yrs)
for the first yr, i was dumbed to enclose $10
even by giving $4 ang pows, i also \"lugi\" ......
(fyi, one of my cousin's hub is earning at least $20,000 per mth, and yet they they're not paiseh to do such thing).......

maybe your DH cousin is hopping that people will mixed up all the ang pow and wouldn't figure out his ang pow is only $4

People should invent those special device....like glasses for cheating at majong. So after all the formalities and kong hi kong hi can jokingly swan the 'rich' $4 giver: \"AAHH, so you are the one nah 😛

I think in today’s context, coins and $2 angpao are out. At least $4 for someone you don’t even know is common and normal nowadays.

Observed that $4 and $6 is the norm this year. So $4 is still fine.

For us, we adopted $6 as we’ve 3 kids. Only those special cases, then we would give more eg. $10.

For someone I know like friend’s children, neighbours and relative’s children should be at least $10. If not, people will talk behind.

Our $2 angpows are now solely for maids who serve you tea at friends’/relatives’ home.

I think it depends more on \"rank\". Eg. for cousins' kids, maybe it's $6 but for those closer ones or you are considered as zhang bei, of course you need to give more. It also depends on the no. of kids.

Within my hubby's family (sisters), the std rate for angpow is $20 per child regardless how many children you have. Eg. we've 3 while most have 2 or 1. The one with 1 will end up giving alot more to all. Then how???? ask her to have more kids then :?
