bak kwa

Thanks for the tip, mrswongtuition. Sure can use it because....I bought 1kg this evening! Also, you can reheat their bakwa without it turning hard like rock.
10s in the microwave will do.
Yes, the bak kwa is tasty and tender, and I like it as much as I liked LCG's.
Thanks all for the recommendation! The queue is forming for Shuang Fu Yuan...had to wait half an hour to get my kilo, and had to pay $50 for it now! :moneyflies: -

Wow $2 jump within a day?? But I guess that is the market practice. I bought at $48/kg on Thurs.gotta wait for 20 min. Friendly service and indeed the whole family clan was roped to help...from the young kids like K2 to the elderly Ah mah..everyone doing their parts..very heart warming..

Verdict - It was thick but tender, and a bit sweet..hubby said abt 20% of it has charred on the edge. He will go for it again provided no queue... -
My dad zeroes in on the charred bits⦠ahahaha
Luckily my mom bought 3kg when it was still $43β¦ phew
My parents like to toast it in the oven. Healthier than microwaving it. -
BigDevil:
They sell it all year round (and cheaper too). So now you know where to head to when you crave for it! (If you are heading there after June, do pop by my centre to take a look.

Just a few units down. Will prepare some goodies for KSPs who visit us. )
BTW, their pork floss is nice too.

Just want to share an idea which I 'borrowed' from BCH years ago.
This is what you do with left over bak kwa.
Sandwich a piece of bak kwa in between 2 piece of puff pastry (cut to size), brush with egg, sprinkle with sesame seeds and bake. Really yummy! :celebrate: BCH used to sell them at 80cents a piece, :!: but have not seen them selling anymore these days. -
25hourmaid:
If you don't know how to make puff pastry (very tedious with all the folding and rolling), use frozen puff pastry. They sell it in sheets. Larger supermarkets will have. Phoon Huat also carries them.Just want to share an idea which I 'borrowed' from BCH years ago.

For CNY, bak kwa is my favourite, not sweets, not angpows, hahaha, just like the advertisement.
I had tried Shuang Fu Yuan before, yes, it has a good favour, sweet and tender, thick and nice trim pieces, unlike some of the suppliers. -
Shang Fu Yuanβs bak kwa was sold out on 31 Jan evening. Not sure if this is the trend every year or just this yr. We tried 600g the normal bak kwa the previous week and intended to buy more, guess have to wait next yr to buy and give away as presents. Well, meantime will buy and eat when the carvings comes.

I do that too but I use frozen roti prata instead.

Anyone making your own bak kwa? It is cheaper to DIY and you can add in flavors of your choice.
