Maybe I am paranoid, but I try to avoid MIC foodstuffs if possible.

Here's the list of MIC foodstuffs compiled from above posts, please add on to the list if there are more you know:
      1. Mission brand nachos
      2. Skippy (certain ones only)
      3. Hershey's chocs,
      4. m&ms,
      5. Chicken in a biscuit

A friend in the health industry told me Product of USA does not mean it is made in USA. I’ve not been buying peanut butter for a long time. We have since switch to Speculoos spread and Marie cookie spread, made in Europe.

    • RE: Appeal Secondary One Posting

Cant comment for others but for our case, it is because there are no other suitable schools nearby to choose from given her aggregate.

Also, COP for her 3rd choice school went up by 4 pts this year so totally no chance.

I've been following this thread but this is my first time posting in this thread, the recent postings are mostly about celebrities and their kids which is irrelevant to the topic. So, let me share my experience to those who are still waiting for their appeal updates.

My child is posted to her 4th choice of school which requires her to take the mrt followed by a bus transfer (all in approx 45 mins journey). Our top 3 choices are all walkable from mrt station. We appealed to all 3 schools.

We have spoken to our child to be mentally prepared to stay in her posted school and any successful appeal is a bonus. We kinda accepted the fact that our appeal probably won't go through but yesterday late morning, we received a call from her first choice of school (short of 3 pts) that she is accepted.

I've been reading about kids posted to lower choice schools that are far from home and was wondering why even choose them in the first place if it's so inconvenient?

    • RE: Appeal Secondary One Posting

A friend's child was posted to a school and she dreads going there cos most of the Sec1 students were classmates in Pri school (affiliated) and she felt out of place (she's a Muslim in a convent school). Tried to appeal but unsuccessful. She didn't give up and even asked for transfer at the end of sec1 but still no vacancies. Tried again for transfer in Sec2 Term 1&2 but also unsuccessful. She finally accepted the fact that she had to stay in her posted school and she is a happier person now.

Importantly, the child must accept reality cos if he/she still has the mindset to move out of the current school, it will be difficult for her to mingle with the peers. Mindset is very important.

:hugs: Great ! Managing the right expectation to yr child in event of unsuccessful appeal. Congrats and a pleasant news indeed.

So parents, there is still hope as you have 3 more days to wait for the result.

Also to share, I called up the 2nd choice school and the staff I spoke to seem very confident that my child will get a place in their school as my child’s T-score is -2 their COP. Asked for my child’s name and said will highlight to the Principal that this parent called to check on appeal status (ie very keen) so MAYBE Principal might take extra note on her appeal. But so far, hasn’t heard anything from them.

We stayed 2N in CJ last Nov, temp was 12-14C at night, no heater in room. It was freezing cold after shower. We requested for a heater and the owner brought one portable heater the next day.

      mamemo:
Thanks for the suggestions! 🙂 can I checking if cing jing will be cold in early December? I realised that most minsu do not have heater in the room, some has electric blanket though.

We booked a 7 seater Wish cabbie through our minsu in 2011. Rate was around NT3000 for Taroko Gorge day trip excluding Qingshui Cliff (we topped up another few hundred NT to visit).

For our coming Nov/Dec trip, I was quoted around NT4000 (can't rem exact quote) from airport to Nanzhuang, Hua Hai then Taichung.

I will usually do my own research and let the driver know the places I want to visit. My driver will also propose a few places of interests if it is along the way.

I asked through email and whatsapp.

Yup, I told them the places/route. So far, none had countered recommended.

Hi dimsum, thanks for your reply!

Do you know what's the normal rate per day? Also, since we are only 2A and 2C, we might not need a big car, so should it be cheaper than a 9 seater?

      Thanks!

I believe it is under 4 hours of driving from Miaoli to Alishan but also depends on which minsu/hotel you book. If they are high up the mountain, will take longer time to arrive.

I've not been to Miaoli but did some research. There ain't many taxi drivers recommended so I can't help you on this. But you might want to check with Mr Lin as I understand he covers Miaoli, Nantou, Taichung and Alishan area, but do note that he is driving a yellow cab Wish. Since you have 5 pax, I'm not sure if boot space will be a concern. For us, he suggested to fold down a seat to create more luggage space (2A3C)

Yes, typically you don't need a driver in CJ unless you plan to visit wuling/hehuanshan. We traveled from Taichung to CJ last year, transfer only. But from CJ to Taichung, we did a day trip to SML/Jiji/Chechen before returning to Taichung. Was quoted NT1800 and NT3500 respectively (7 seater Wish as we left our main luggage in Taichung and traveled with overnight bag to accommodate 3A3C). But I won't recommend this driver (Tony Su) as he played us out and didn't send a driver until I called him after 15 mins wait.

Based on my past research, VW T5 driver quoted me NT4500-NT6000 for day trips. Add another NT1000 - NT1500 if you need driver 24/7. This extra is inclusive of his accommodation.

      Hi Blessed Homemaker,

Thanks so much for sharing your iti and driver info.

      I'm planning to get a driver from Miaoli Flying Cow -> Alishan (1N) -> SML -> Cingjing (2N) -> Taipei (3N).

May I know how long it takes from Miaoli -> Alishan? My travelling group (3A2C) is thinking of checking out Flying Cow as early as 8am so that we can tour Alishan first before checking into our hotel. Do you have a Miaoli driver's contact?

After checking out of Alishan, we thought of dropping by SML then head for a 2N stay at Cingjing. I felt a driver is not needed for the following day (covering things GGG, Carton, Swiss Garden that are all near Misty). However, one driver told me because he's based in Taichung, so he needs time to travel to Cingjing to pick us up when we check out from our minsu, so even skipping one day of his service makes not much diff to the package he's quoted us. Is that usually the case?

it seems that to hire a driver for the whole day or about 8 hrs costs NT5000-6000 depending on the road condition. Does that apply for 5pax, where the driver usually use a 9-seater? Are you aware of the typical over-time charges?

Thanks and look forward to your reply 🙂
