Dun worry...My son didnt know alot of words too....And I meant simple ones....

Even one to ten can spell wrongly...And he's going P1 next year....

I just went to the zoophonics test and his standard is only @ 4yrs only... :slapshead:
So now I am finding some enrichment classes to prep him for P1.

      Cheers,

Hi all, my son is going to Primary next year and he is still NOT able to read 4 letter words. I read that some children already started reading at 3 and 4 years old. Oh dear, is my child very behind and not ready for primary school? What can I do at this moment to help him at home or should I enroll him in some kind of intensive course programme?

Does he has any phonics training in his preschool? If not and your family financial allow, it is good to start him early. If not, all school should have learning support programme which will bring all p1 students to the same level through remedial for the affected students.

I am quite sure my child will be in the ‘learning support programme’! Is it a programme that we have to pay? Like tuition?

I am trying to get some materials to quickly teach him on my own while trying to find a good centre to help him. How about the centre, "I can Read" anyone have any feedback for the Novena one? I am thinking of sending him for Math enrichment in that area so if I can also do English in the same area, it will be better. (Cos my helper will be sending / fetching as I am working. Easier to send to a familiar area cos my helper is quite blur!)

For ICR, if by this age he has not able to read, he might be place at the fundamental stage which I forgot the name of the stage. My advice is sent him for assessment and look around for other centre. I understand KRTC also offer phonics class as well as LCentral. You can check around. As for math, how is he faring but still coach him basic at this moment. The most important is language bevause if he do not able to read, he will difficulty to answer the question. In school, the school will offer learning support for math and English to children who are weak in the Eng and Math.

              For ICR,
Thinking & Creative Skills - to learn A-Z first sound
Preliminary Reading Programme - to learn middle, ending sound. As well as segment blending & writing skills
ICR (structured course, 6 months) - reading marked stories & spelling
ICR Advance (structured course, 6 months) - reading unmarked stories, chapters story reading, spelling, basic grammar, comprehension

Anybody has comments about Jan & Elly? The fees is $320/10 lessons (1hr)

Seems like their phonics program is very comprehensive, takes about 2.5 yrs to complete the program.

Anyone can advice the difference between KRTC "Read in a week" vs. ICR reading program? My boy has been attending phonics class with iCreative but the home based one is closing soon due to restructuring. And the new classroom based location and timing is difficult for me to send him. Thinking of switching ti either KRTC or ICR. Which one is better? Now my boy can read level 1 books, and 3 letter blending… but have problem when the words get longer.

Currently short listing the KRTC at tampines or rivervale mall and ICR at Hougang Green.

hi p1momsg2014, if you're concern that your son is entering p1 next year and still not able to read, try the Children Learning Reading program. Ive been using that program to teach my son and he's now and able to read. Please with the results! 🙂 http://www.mumsafari.com/category/learning-reading/
