All About Competitive Swimming
-
I hv received some queries regarding the Category of Coaches here in Spore so I thought maybe I share some details here.
Its ok becos most of them have no clues at all…lol
All Coaches in Spore who are teaching at Public Pool (Pools owned and maintain by Spore Sports Council) must be registered with NROC ( National Registry of Coaches - Renewable every 3 yrs )
Those not register are not allow to teach at the Public Pool
There are 3 levels of Coaches under NROC
L1 - Coach: Learn to Swim
L2 - Senior Coach : Learn to Swim & Competitive
L3 - Master Coach : Learn to Swim, Competitive & National Level
Hope these info helps and again if you need further elaboration do drop me a PM
regards

Hi Wolfgirl,
Saw your daughter swam at the Meet. She is very good. Definitely a potential.
Think both our children are the same age, as both are going to Pri 1 in January.
Yes, my son is Alexandar. We attend ACJC
He just got graded last Saturday, and now is in Grade 7. He will go now under the PRC coach for endurance training. I think my son needs it as he is very playful, and only swim fast if he is requested to. Otherwise, he will look left and right and then try to see if there are any fish in the water. He also needs the endurance and stamina training, as this part has not been developed yet. His backstrokes are very bad. Cant get the rotating coordination well. His previous coach Mr LingZ worked very hard on my son to get him to swim properly. I must thank Mr LingZ for doing a good job.
I have seen all the national swimmers. One thing I do not want my son to have are their big bulging muscles on the biceps and legs. They look very ugly. Also, if he develops a big chest, it is also no good, as it will slow down his speed in wushu when doing punchings, and provides a big target, besides having a droopping chest when he reaches about 50 years old.
I prefer those Olympic swimmers who are slim and agile. At least, when they go out to work, they will look normal. (just to share with you, some of the things I take into consideration when exposing my son to some sports). -
Swimmers are swimmers they are not body builder....no matter how they swims or train they will not hv bulging muscle like body builder

Only sprinters will hv bigger muscle than most swimmer becos they need all out bull strength for 50m sprint......beep...Chiong ahhhhhh
I going 54 and no, I don't hv dropping chest..Heng ahh...Infact my body is like a 30 yrs young man..hehe....
I'm also into martial art too..no I'm no hitting target for my sparring partner...I also ask the older boys p5,6 to throw blows to my body until their hand pain...
My 2cts on the benefit to keep fit and maintain yr body.
I wld say Build as much muscle as you can tru yr life time cos when you reach late 50-60 yr muscle will all shrink and you will look ....hv you seen yr dad sudden shrink over a few months? ......also looks unhealthy like a sick man tho one is of normal -
:congrats: to those winning in the FINA/ARENA SWIMMING WORLD CUP 2012.

Few questions:
1. what drinks should I prepare for my girl to drink in between laps during training? Just plain water or isotonic drink or energy drink?
2. Squirt bottle better or suck-bottle?
3. What additional nutrition should I feed her? She is now on probiotics and children multi Vit… (just worried about her immune system) I have also upped her protein intake. -
Wolfgirl:
Have you heard of Endurox Accelerade ($46) and Endurox R4 ( recovery $56) these are better sports drinks but expensive.Few questions:

I have personally used them when I run a Marathon or long run 21km & above
Bottle are personal preference But I wld prefer the squeeze bottle cos one hand will do the job.
Swimming is a high energy sport therefore one would requires high energy & high carbo diet.
Cereal with skimmed milk, baked bean with toast, Banana, noodle/pasta/rice, tuna sandwich are highly recommended. Banana is a must as its a solid fruit for energy:) In marathon they only give free banana ard the 22km that's where most runners are out of energy :))
There are many other food rich in energy n carbo ya... -

Just wanna ask… would swimming result in broad shoulders?
Especially during growing stage for children -

Actually girls don't look that nice with very broad shoulders. My friend is super conscious of her broad shoulders.
That's why I'm wondering if I should let my girl continue with more swimming lessons :siam:
