ok, I will try to be polite to uphold the name of my school.

But seriously, it’s really hard for teenagers to behave in a good way. When I was in NH, I was not so concerned about upholding the reputation of my school, lol, since we don’t have a good rep anyway. But now, in HC, i must be polite, can’t jaywalk, can’t say swear words (not even abbreviations). Really hard to adapt lah.
FMPS was good in the sense that all the Christian values they instilled in me made me a polite person who never swore, but sadly they were "erased" in NHHS, lol. Now must find them again.
PS: HC is not as good as it seems (my dream was ^shattered^). I see girls and boys playing cards in McDonald’s in uniform, and some of them also shouts swearwords in school.

My elder boy just began sec 1 in NJC. There are classmates using \"seemingly innocent\" words like smart butt/ retarded (I only saw these in his sms recently). I do not like these. Also noticed my elder boy has been calling the younger boy dumb more often over trivial matters. Peer pressure is a force we cannot underestimate.

I suspect it is lack of moral education in our schs that causes this issue. So many times, CME is taught at the end of the year. During my sec sch days, it was compulsory to take a religious study subject (either Buddhism, Christianity or Confucius for the Chinese). If MOE brings these back into our sch system, maybe we will see better behaved kids. Too many families are not addressing this basic moral values in depth.

sigh, nowadays students are becoming "cooler".

girls get bfs as early as in sec 1, with many of them having really short skirts (i’m proud to say i don’t!) and ankle socks. They also pierce multiple earholes, and dye their hair. Sad to say, I noticed some girls in HC looking very bimbo-like with colourful hairbands and brown hair. Their uniform has been altered to accomodate "shoelaces" which will help them tuck out their shirts.
In NH, many students are being "pressured" to say swear words because it’s cool. If you don’t really do that (like me) then you will be unpopular. Which is why my sec sch life is really horrible.

As for the wayward behaviour that you have mentioned, I wonder if this is the teenagers’ way of expressing their frustrations??

But like I said, that’s the only way to enforce my habit of "mugging every day", unlike those girls whose standards dropped to ACJC?
I have tuition only in sec 4 when I got more nervous. Sadly, in sec 1-2 I rarely worked hard, and now I think I should have gotten tuition in sec 3. I liked my bio tutor–he wrote the textbook. However, the Math and Hist tutors were private and much more expensive… $240 a month? That’s all, tuition for Math, History and Bio only.

If you benchmarked against perfect 10 distinctions, then yes to what you say but at the moment, you are definitely top 10% in SG to be in HCI, that is stellar achievement to me.

Actually your comments reminded me of an article in ST some years back. Some RJC kids were lamenting that they were not good enough to get into their choice of Ivy league schools with their perfect scores because they lacked community service work in their portfolio.

I was like :!: , anything less than Harvard, Oxford, Stanford or Berkley is not an education? No doubt they were stating some harsh facts of life in the selection process, but the true nuances of living is missed.

I know all of you children tried very hard but times like this, it is essential to look at what you have achieved and not what you have not.

Ultimately, it is not the best score or best-university person who became the most inspirational. Since it is CNY, I recommend you to watch this K-drama \"贤内助女王\". She married the best guy from the best university, but she struggled alot in life with him, watch to find out why.

Sorry I have to use K-drama to tell you another story, as it is a vivid way to show you the way then just tell tell tell. If you watch the dramas enough, you will realise that the star of each drama is often not the most beautiful, most bimbotic but the one with the most character. So don't feel sad at being different, feel proud that you dare to be different to do what you think is right. You actually stand out, you just don't know.

Thanks for pandering to my curiosity about your tuition and I think it sounds reasonable. Lastly, I also hope you don't get addicted to k-drama, ok? This auntie also has no time to watch, but I get the important gist of the dramas by going fast forward in the dramas I am keen to explore.

I like too, especially those ancient period dramas (like Queen Seon Deok) but workload in JC is very heavy, no time to watch
My parents always tell me to compete with the top, not with the bottom, so now I'm super \"critical\" of my own \"achievements\". My mum felt the same way too, that I could do better.
I'm not likely to go Ivy Leagues anyway, since I'm not rich, but making it to NUS Medicine Faculty would be nice
