Now the budget 2010 is out.

What's your opinion of the budget?

Personal tax relief still remain the same, thought it would be more than the present at $2,000. 😢

No goodies for me...coz I don't claim parent relief (sis does); training paid by co so can't claim, don't even drink wine - so extra 1 l duty free doesn't affect me.

I particularly like the IP/Patent/Innovation portion...although I work in the finance industry so such incentives/perks don't get to me...this is in the right direction.

Buy methinks also mush penalize pirated stuff and patent infringement! haha

Budget 2010 don't give me the WOW :rahrah: feeling.

The only thing we benefit from is probably the potential increase in dependent relief. They mentioned about credits into kids' eduation account. At this stage, I don't feel much about that.

Heard from some experienced parents that we should not keep using $$$ from the kids' education account as it's insufficient to cover for all activities. So for now, I am trying to pay for those extra stuff by cash and leave $ in that account for stormy days. Eg. sec school when their expenses are higher????

Smells like election budget 😐 . Loads of goodies for the mass, lower income families, less property tax etc. Dunno about the very poorest in the rental flats though.

                  (1) Is the spouse relef applicable to working women even if their hubby is working too?

                  (2) Who defines the Annual Value of our hdb flat as this would determine the amount of property tax if we need to pay?

starlight1968sg, the spouse relief is applicable to the claimant so long as the spouse is earning SGD 4000 and below.

Earning 4k & below per year which means $333.33 per month?
So this is as good as no relief or status quo?

Anyway, I am disappointed with no further utilities rebates given. With the casino opening its lion's mouth, surely we can expect more $$ rolling into the government's hands?
