Oh pls...scratching is simply becoz it's itchy! Not stimming. Use moisturizer. Plenty of it. Try dermaveen or physiogel. Moisturize every hr until it gets better.ImMeeMee.

I gave my boy fish oil from nordic naturals. U can order from iherb.com.
Mine didn't like tv when he was young. Only watched commercials. Now he loves tv ESP science documentaries.
If it helps in anyway, mine sat down during his first concert performance. Everyone were dancing away and he just sat down and refused to budge. So we ended up taking just photos of him sitting down. Sigh. It's just a concert, there will be more to come. If the teacher don't allow him to participate, don't attend. Then he won't know and won't feel it. -

...mine (at 4 yrs old then) din even go up the stage. He refused cos the camera flashlights scared him. Both my husband and I took leave to watch his performance in school only to find him sitting amongst the audience with his head bent down. We dun even have a chance to take photo of him on the stage.

Hahaha, I think anyone will have stage fright. Performing is actually not for everyone. Can u imagine our PM going up the stage to do a gangnam style? Anyway, my boy took part in more concerts as he grew older and he got better each time.mashy:

Like I said earlier, don't compare. Each kid have different strengths. I don't expect my boy to excel in everything. That would have been too much to ask for. Just find their niche and they will do wonderfully. At 3 yrs old, my boy just started talking for not too long. We were so delighted when he could read, never mind that others don't understand what he's reading becoz of his poor articulation. Had such a good laugh recently playing back his old videos.
Actually,I don't think my NT gal is as brilliant as him. Lol. She is good in other things, just not in the intelligence department. But it's fine. As she grows older, I will be able to find out more about her strengths. Right now it's just waiting. -

Hi
In the previous archives, there was mention of a social story book...is it called My Social Stories Book by Carol Gray? It was recommeded in the Psychologist's Report as Social Stories by Carol Grey.
Thanks.
Hi Fizz,
It's called \"The New Social Stories Book\" by Carol Grey. Personally, I find the Jed Baker's one better 'cos more pictures and less words, so more suitable for young kids. But Carol Grey's one will tell you her technique on how to go abt developing your own social stories. Hope that helps.
Btw, I read earlier on that you met up with the AED of your kid's primary school to enquire abt the support that would be given for AS kids. Can share info on the kind of support the school will give here? Thanks!
Thanks. I looked through Book Depository...it costs about $40+? I shall consider the Jed Baker book too.
I did not meet up with the AED. She called me after the admin conveyed my call to her. Briefly based on what she told me over the phone, the school will have educator counsellors or something to that name, over on a monthly basis to assess the special needs kids. I suspect this may be a MOE initiative as I know another school has this too. The AED will also organise opportunities for the ASD kids to come together and practise social skills with one another. On the day of the orientation, the AED will already know the class of the special needs kids and ready to help on hand if needed. We passed the report to the admin and the AED said the VP will call us regarding the allocation of class. -

My kids take Nodiac Naturals from iherb.com too. In Sg, you can get them from Vitakids at a much inflated rate. But some kids may still not like the strawberry masked fishy taste. For immunity booster, you can try Ceelin (a pure Vit C syrup aka absorbic acid) from Guardian and / or Probiotic from Kinder Clinic (I do not know where else carry this though).ImMeeMee.

For a 3yo, to sit for 2hrs doing an activity or 15min listening to a story is very good! 2hrs!!!
Today, my son's Art teacher commented that his tee looked very nice and she liked it. Immediately, we noticed that he lowered his face and kept quiet. Other kids would prolly chatter about the tee. His in-apt in social communication is pretty obvious  -

Thanks for info on fish oil. Fizz I dare not give my son vat C , worried he too awake n energetic til dun nap… My son only just started w lactoGG recommended by GP. But still not much of help . I will combine it w fish oil then.

My 3 years 4 mths kid has speech delay as he is unable to converse in sentence and few words, mostly unintelligent speech or saying a few words repetitively to cover up for the missing words. During his 1st 2 years of language milestone, it seem normal, but since after 2 years old, there is not much of a language progression. During his 2nd year, our pediatrician let us wait till he turn 3. And we are worried now as there is no improvements on him while most kids should have a big leap during this period. Due to his condition, we have not yet send him to any preschool or childcare. I observed that he do not seem to mix well with kids his age. Most of the time, he stands at a corner observing kids at the playground. And when he feel more comfortable or depending on his mood, he do play with them. Sometimes he seem very sociable with strangers and with kids his age. He do have some similar signs persistent with autism such as in the past, align objects in very straight line which he seldom do nowsdays. Repeating words he knows. Depending on his mood, he can clearly copycat what u speak and he is quite good in remembering songs he like and sing as well. He has good skills in operating equipments, n although he has speech delay, he however follows simple instructions which i asked him to do, such as close the door, switch on/off lights…etc…I tried to teach him new words and read books to him, but most of the time, he rejected. Lately he had a fever, and i brought him to see a doctor and he scream and run away when he saw the doctor. He also like to take lifts, obsessed with it…so much so that we have to avoid any lifts near his sight. It so stressful and I sense he might have autism. Any expert here can guide me?

I agree with u on helplessmum’s case. The teachers just aren’t helpful t all. My boy’s teachers were accomodating even when we didn’t know what’s wrong with him. We didn’t have a diagnosis still end of k2. When my son couldn’t nap, he was just made to lie down and keep to his mat. When he didn’t watch tv and instead hide behind the cuPboards, they also didn’t take issue with it. When they were having lessons and he walked around, they jus kept bringing him
Back and sit next to him to complete his work. His classmates took turns to feed him when he didn’t want to eat.
I seriously think that it’s better to change the sch than to change the child. My boy’s earlier sch couldn’t accommodate to his needs so instead of changing him, I opted to change sch. The sch are just thinking of themselves and not your child. That’s where I draw a line. -

IMO your son could just simply be speech delayed. By being speech delayed, it affected his other skills including social skills. How can u make friends if they don’t understand what u are saying? So in the end, he will become more withdrawn. Once that hurdle is crossed and his confidence level is up, everything will improve.
U can still send him to sch even if he doesn’t talk much. Mine started from 2 yrs old. He couldn’t talk till 2.5. His teachers congratulated me when he started talking. Lol. He also made friends with another kid who also couldn’t talk well. Somehow the two could understand each others’ gibberish. Lol.
Get him to speech therapy. Early help can benefit a lot. U can try kkh rehab or go private. -
Optrex80, I know you are seeking some answers here for your son but truth be told, none of us here can tell you if he's on the spectrum or just delayed. I was searching for answers from all my friends but ended with inconclusive answers. Only now finally I'm getting the diagnosis when my son is 5 years old. I wish I had knocked on the right door earlier. On hindsight, I think the best advice I could have gotten was, go & seek medical opinion. Not your regular PD but the doctors at child development unit at kkh or NUH. Go to polyclinic, get a referral to see these Drs. You will get subsidized rate via this route. And as mashy say, now that you know he's got speech delay then quickly get therapy for him. Again, You can book speech therapy at the 2 hospitals or go private. Hope this helps.
