Thanks for info on fish oil. Fizz I dare not give my son vat C , worried he too awake n energetic til dun nap.. My son only just started w lactoGG recommended by GP. But still not much of help . I will combine it w fish oil then.
My son school will ask the kids of all classes to sit together to watch tv before 930am n after 530Pm when no programme ... N wait for going home ..
Stage performance worried my son will cause danger to other kids if he accidentally knock n fall from stage or himself fall down from stage..at least yr kids just sit down or just shy away.. For him he might carry away or overly excited ..
Mashy,
I feel my son interested to dance because whenever I on the music he will try to dance when at home ...but duno how to stay put at one location ..
Should I withdraw him from taking part ? He might feel hurt if he sees all his fren at stage n he is not. And also practise time in school he is not allow to move just sit n watch... This I feel hurt ....
Gifts.
Whenever my son fall sick or taking antibiotic his rashes will get real bad n scratch until bleeding..
My son can't go around during dance he will disturb others so don't hav such role for him.
IMO, the filling time before lessons start and home time is the BEST time for kids, especially our ASDs, to learn to socialise. Sitting in front of the TV for 2hrs dulls the mind. In my boy's cc, during these periods, they get to do crafts, draw, read or even play Mr Wolf, what's the time, with the teachers. Even playing alone with figurines is ok.
If the teachers really cannot handle your son but are willing to try, get the teachers to work with the therapists. There was a moderate ASD kid in his cc last year. He would run and run and scream if he were held. The P admitted that they could not handle him but worked with the therapists ways to handle him. Of course, this involved school visits by the therapists. The question is, how willing. My boy would walked from his N1 group to the K2 group when he first joined. They allow him to walk around and even join the older classes to satisfy his curiosity first and slowly led him back to his group more frequently till he's comfy to engage himself in his own class.
The ball is in your hands to choose the right teachers and culture to work with your child. There are schools out there which are willing. But give the current teachers a chance first by working and communicating closely with them.
i work very closely with P, school special needs dept & even engaged Private Therapist for school visit & coach the teacher.. ENd up the Teacher jus say \" We are not special needs teacher\" !!
P also can't force their teachers to do mah. cuz school not paying them as much as Special Needs teacher too.. u know...
so sad.... no one can help my son except we parents... but i need to go work to sustain his school & therapist fee...
feel so lost... i can understand why Mother jump down with their son & died together. u know the stress the society... -

= He also like to take lifts, obsessed with it...so much so that we have to avoid any lifts near his sight. It so stressful and I sense he might have autism. Any expert here can guide me?
my son is obsessed w Lift too, he will hav meltdown whenever we refuse him to take the lifts..
first you must acknowledge his wants then try to negio with him... along the way he will know. cannot mean cannot...
Most ASD love lifts... -

That’s why I say, u should consider changin sch. It’s obvious the teachers have written your son off. It’s better for him to change to another school. U may be surprised once u start looking. I didn’t even knew my boy’s sch existed until a recommendation from a friend. It’s also very cheap as it’s a little out of the way. Teachers are very important if u want to see any improvement in him as they work with him every weekday. -

Hmmm.. Mine isn't too particular about it. Sometimes he will race up the stairs while I take lift and see who is faster. But that's also coz he is now older. I ever brought him to take stairs just to let him use up his excess energy. No prob with that. -
Mashy,

Helplessmum3,
Re sitting down to watch TV.
Mayb u wan to try negotiating with the teachers to see if he can do other activities or not. In my boy's school, they have chapel once a week. My boy also can't sit still 'cos he is bored. His teacher gave him a stress ball to squeeze while waiting for the service to be over. Sometimes, he will help to massage his teacher's arm instead.

Hi Fizz,
Gifts from Heaven
Thanks. I looked through Book Depository...it costs about $40+? I shall consider the Jed Baker book too.
I did not meet up with the AED. She called me after the admin conveyed my call to her. Briefly based on what she told me over the phone, the school will have educator counsellors or something to that name, over on a monthly basis to assess the special needs kids. I suspect this may be a MOE initiative as I know another school has this too. The AED will also organise opportunities for the ASD kids to come together and practise social skills with one another. On the day of the orientation, the AED will already know the class of the special needs kids and ready to help on hand if needed. We passed the report to the admin and the AED said the VP will call us regarding the allocation of class.
All books on ASD are v expensive. Our psychologist even recommend one book which cost $100+ to buy locally :yikes: . I still hvnt buy those books, just borrow fr library to see see first. But unfortunately, that $100+ book cannot be found in our local library, so looks like got to just buy.
Re primary school support for ASD kids
Do you know if the school will give assistance to ASD kids upon their entry immediately? Or will they be treated like normal kids first and the teachers will observe them for 1-2 terms first to see if the kids can handle the demands of the school before AED/school counsellor step in? Do you know if any assistance will be given to ASD kids during recess and assembly time?
How many AEDs/school counsellor does your boy's school have?
Hehehe
....U can tell I'm getting worried even though my boy is not due for P1 until 2014.
