You mentioned that you son cannot comprehend who, what, how and why questions right? if so, then he will need a SLT. My son is also seeing a SLT from Leapfrog for the same issue.

my son can answer;- who is this. what is this.go where, what you wan?. the how & why he cannot..

but i wish he can answer in longer sentences.

i oso feel tat , my son need SLT. but rainbow say since the teacher is able to work on this area, so dun need SLT unless the teacher is unable to do so..

      😞

nugget my son is ppd-nos that y cant tell much plus he dun have sensorary problem & behaviour problem...

But he still duno how to comprehend 😞

he only know how to answer simple question like, what are you having? what happen? do u need this?

What do you mean by 'dunno how to comprehend'?

Knowing how to answer questions such as those u listed is also comprehending.

i duno how to say.. maybe like the key is use to? bird flying in the sky sort of question.

          Helplessmum,

I understand what u are saying. My son can also answer simple questions but not the more complex ones. That’s y his private Eipic teacher suggest SLT. Cos now is not about speech but on language development which will help him in his social comm.

oops, I just did a search for the rainbow uniform but only managed to find the pants. Let me try to search again. Will PM you tomorrow.

Regarding the SLT, when my son was there (Q2 2012), resources was very lacking in this area. There was a SLT but only see my son about once a fortnight and less than half hour each time. She do more observation job and less coaching. You should not wait for Rainbow's SLT, sign up with KKH Rehab.

Most improvements is shown when there is constant practice. Dun get too hung up on formal SLT sessions. I feel SLT therapy is partly to \"teach\" us - parents ... we learn and then we apply at home. In fact, my SLT told me \"all mummies are the best SLT\" as we see our kids every day, shower them, feed them and play with them. Every of these daily activities can incorporate SLT by asking leading qs, teaching them the appropriate response.

I feel you are setting too high a standard for your child and picking different yardsticks to compare him to different NT kids. Dun do that. Compare him with himself. A suggestion is to document down your child's journal every week/month. Write down the milestones he achieved and when you feel down, read the journal. And, presto... he did progress !

Stay happy.. kids can sense it if the mummy is tense πŸ™‚

:-([/quote]What your son need is language development. But in EIPIC like Rainbow, there are many other kids who doesn't even say a word at all. Hence their resident speech therapist will naturally be attending to them first cos your son at least is verbal.

This same thing is happening in my son's EIPIC as well. Their SLT feels my son is doing okay, there are other non verbal child required her attention more. But actually my son also have difficultly putting sentences together and expressing out.

But instead of saying my EIPIC no good, I cut some budget, tighten my belt, let him go for pte weekly speech therapy. Pte SLT did ask me if i want to do it 2x per week but I dun have such money, instead, I managed to get myself enrolled in KKH Rehab SLT once per month. Well its at least better than nothing. And I shared what I learnt at SLT with EIPIC teachers so they , together with me, reinforce it.

Like I mentioned to you last time, if u want change, want things to be better, we need to put in effort too.

Its 1 hour. $41 or $44 after subsidy. The KKH SLT will write down a homework list for you for you to practise at home with your son.

A lot of home practise to be done for them to improve.

You need to understand that there is no magic bullet. All EIPIC centers, no matter where you go, need parents' support and commitment to make things work.

Put in the efforts to make things work to your advantage, rather than to succumb to the system and constraints and continue to be helpless.

                        Good luck.
