nugget:
Yup I intend to inform the school of my child's condition. Now that he is 5 yo, is it too early to check on the AED? Cos my worries is by the time he is 7, maybe the good AED would have left? And, may I know if we decided that that particular school has good support, we can only wait till the official registration period (is it mid of k2?) right?
Just to add on to Mashy point 1, you can call up or email the school you interested in.mashy:
1) It depends on the school. Some schools do not have open house and don't entertain parents visiting.
2) I don't think it is compulsory for mainstream schools. It is needed if u are sending your child to SPED schools though.
3) no pass or fail. Just will advise you which is a better option for you in schooling.
I went to a few schools to make enquiry and visits before decided which one to enroll my child into. But then, you need to be open about your child condition if you are asking about AED LBS support etc.
My hb said in the worst case, we will engage a shadow teacher to a mainstream school. Will cost a bomb I guess. -
Double e,
My son join this class as according to the senior teacher is that my son has the potential … Because this group they are going to mainstream primary one setting.
My son next year is just only k1 . I assume he join for co hort teaching purpose not gruadating w them .
I also not sure how this works … -

Don't worry too much. He is only 5 now. Just do what you can now. There will be other worries next time so leave it till then. However, if u shortlisted a school that may require pv for phase 2b, time to start that to guarantee or improve chances of your place. Ultimately, the school will still need u to go thru the normal registration process.
I'm not sure about other schools, my boy's sch displayed all the photos of the teachers and AED on the school board outside general office. U may try visiting schools during dismissal time to check the board. Or the easier way is to call the schools and ask how many AED they have. They have specialised ones for ASD. Dunno which is that though. -
Summer tan:
summer tan, its a good time to start ground work when your child is 5 yo. While AEDs may or may not change when your child reaches school enrolment, its good to have a feel of school environment, how embracing the school is towards special needs children etc. in addition to the AED consideration.Yup I intend to inform the school of my child's condition. You may also like to check whether the school allows shadow teachers. Not all may allow shadow teachers and I have come across one that does not. -
Actually I feel its not too late to start to look now.
I started to look when my son just started K1 and some schools already don’t accept pv. I visited 3 schools around my area before selecting one. And this school I wanted my son to go is > 1km away hence I need to PV in order to secure my chances. And through the PV, I happened to see how the school deal with other special needs kids.
Maybe you can start to go for their school open house. Like someone mentioned, its usually in June/July. -
Double E:
Double E, thanks for your encouragement. Let's always hope for the best!
