ImMeeMee:
Hi ImMeeMee
summer tan, I stay up north and have looked around quite a bit while I was considering mainstream schools for my doter two years back.Summer tan:
Thanks sembgal. Have you heard of semb pri sch? Is the support good?
I would say Naval Base Primary School has a relatively good reputation to support ASD children in the northern area. I went for its open house two years ago, and overall the school gave an impression that they were very supportive of the children. They also mentioned that they have quite a number of ASD children and the number of AEDs is higher due to the higher number of special needs children.
After the session I stayed back to speak to the VP and there was a long queue of parents and from what I heard, a number was there to make enquiry because of special needs. The VP came across as someone who was kind and accommodating.
That was about two years ago and I do not know whether things have changed since then. One parent friend that I spoke to quite some time ago also mentioned NBPS and said her son was there. She gave thumbs up on its support.
The other school that you may want to consider could be Chong Boon that is next to PL in AMK. I have not been there but the fact that they have children on an exchange program with PL during certain activities gives me the impression that they would be relatively more embracing. You may like to check it out.
HTH.
Thank you for the information. That really helps alot. Strong support is really very impt. Hmm would that make it like a \"mini pathlight school\"? The pri sch open house is in december right? Mind if I ask, did u choose nbps in the end? Actually my husband and I are in a dilemma bcos semb pri sch is nearer to us than nbps.
Thanks much again! -

A friend just posted this....My daughter just
showed me the reply form the lady at the
address, this is what she had said She said it
well!!!! : Dear one pissed off mother
-It’s always nice to hear from a neighbor,
especially when they have a problem. You see, I
love to help others. This is why I keep my two
grandsons who are autistic. When I take my
grandsons outside to play, it’s far from an act of
selfishness nor is it a nuisance for me to allow
him to experience the joy of childhood, a sense of
freedom and fun. I’m deeply sorry that you
consider his dreadful sounds of joy a pollution.
The real toxicity here appears to be your attitude
toward this situation and that scares the hell out
of me for your normal children. Can I ask you
how they are ever going to learn to care for
others? To appreciate that life should be
celebrated, even if to you it seems a little flawed.
And, by the way, there’s nothing flawed about my
grandson. One more question, what are you going
to do if one of your normal children grows up and
becomes the parent of a special needs child? Will
you banish your child/grandchild from your life
because they are too much of a nuisance? I hope
not.
You see, one day should you ever find yourself as
a grandmother to a grandchild like mine, I hope
that you won’t see him as a hindrance but as a
blessing. That you’ll care for him, as I do my
grandson, and teach him that he’s worth
investing in and loving. I hope that you’ll dream
of the day that despite his challenges – and they
are many – he can experience the joy of
achievement and the unconditional love of true
friends. It’s clear you’ve heard him scream, but
I’d like to invite you over for milk and cookies so
that you can also feel the warmth of his hug and
see the sweetness of his smile. Milk, cookies and
sunny play outside is how to properly deal with
any child, even my very special grandson. I know
you’re a hard working person and would welcome
the opportunity to share a meal, or even a small
snack, with you, share my family with you and
treat you special.
As to your desire that I move, I’m deeply sorry
that I can’t oblige. I love our close proximity
community because I love people, value people
and have made a home here. I also have friends
among the community whom I would miss greatly.
I try my best to do the right thing every day. To
care for my home, to care for my family and to
love my neighbors. I invite you to do the same.
Sincerely,
The lady living at this address -
RE: All About Autism
Thanks Nebermind for the contact. One of the parents gave me this too but my hb is hesitant. Thought they said soy milk better than cows milk for active kids? My boy is taking nordic natural fish oil but I don’t see much changes leh…
Btw we happened to meet this retired doc and what he said really strikes us. That is, active kids will eventually grow out of it n settle down if not now then later. Hmm food for thoughts. -

My boy also hyper. I googled osteopathy after u mentioned but seems like it's more for bone related issues?
You try to google osteopathy and adhd/autism.
Somehow they believe that when our body structure is not balanced, it will affect our behaviour. Something like if your skull is pressing against some part of the brain, you may act oddly. It seems quite probable as we have heard of people with brain/head tumour suddenly have behavioural change, sometimes turning aggressive etc.
We tried this path coz my kid was diagnosed ADHD but not the running/jumping type. His mind just float away from the surrounding and was not conforming socially. We didn't want him to be a liability or a social pest and so we would try anything to make him more 'ordinary'. Thank God he grew out of it!

I'm thinking of trying out homeopathy for my child. Has anyone tried and do u recommend it?
But we also tried osteopathy for ADHD related issues. You may wanna explore more in this area.
