About the priority to ARC, I believe so too but Pathlight claims they don't. I am also mentally prepared to put my boy in Pathlight although his teacher thinks he may be capable of mainstream. But I am worried especially after your post on your nephew's situation. I have two years to think about that.
Er...he is not in any enrichment center. Already tough to keep him in mainstream kindly. LoL. He is due in P1 in 2 years time. I dunno mainstream or PL. But I want to make preparations for PL. As a back up plan. So I am in the midst of transferring his EIPIC to ARC. As I understand it, there are only about 70 places in PL and it gives priority to its sister school ARC.nugget:
tyeogh,
Your son can strive well in tuition/enrichment centre? That is very good!
So I guess you will put your son in mainstream next time? -

Dear tyeogh,
Your sharing on mark 11:23 had brought me tears, because it is very touching.
Your sharing had encouraged & lifted up my spirit, in this depressing world of age we are living in.
Thank you so much, for your precious, wonderful, invaluable, sharing.
It is heartening & great to hear encouraging, turn around improvement situation like yours.
Yes, we must all continue to talk to our "mountain" / problem / obstacle -
seek his help, to overcome. -

Thats a good plan but better confirm if the priority is still in place. Last I read somewhere, is still dependent on the assessment results. Probably priority is given to those ARC EIPIC students whom have passed the assessment testing. Nevertheless, is good to plan ahead.
For me, I am trying a different approach. I want to try mainstream first, if he really cannot blend in, then I will queue up again for pathlight.
If you don't mind me asking, how did you came to realize your son is mildly autistic when he is 2? -
belachanbabe:
Actually my son wasn't participating in the performance except for the last part group singing and dancing.
Desertwind and tyeogh. You guys are really strong and cool about the whole concert participation thingy, I would have strongly told off the principal already. It brought back bad memories during their younger days at mainstream kindy, after hearing that your wife cried. Seriously, these concerts should be all inclusive regardless of whether they can perform; no one expect these things to be some slick in-sync Kpop mega production what. Even standing on the stage in costume swaying to music is better than total exclusion. These concerts are meant to be opportunities for parents to take photos/videos and to be proud of their kid’s accomplishments. Haiz, so heartpain to still hear of such incidents.
That's what the teacher told me initially. But after having a thought, I requested the teacher to let them hold a prop. Be a tree or what. Those non talking roles. I say since the whole class is performing, he will feel left out if he see whole class up there.
My son had performed a dance organised by his EIPIC in front of MPs and VVIPs during a charity show. On stage and recorded on video.
There is no reason why he can't do a simple K2 grad skit by just holding a prop. And teacher allowed him to participate.
Sometimes I feel mainstream teachers just simply cast aside special need kids without giving them a chance. But to be fair, I understand that they are very stretch and very busy. Its already tough to teach, train and arrange performance. Whats more to look after a special needs.
But as a parent, if I feel my son is up to it, I feel the school should give him a chance. We have to be thick skin, and keep fighting for our child.
They are just different, not less.
