Also, on swimming.
Any recommendations on private coaching in west area, preferably in bukit Panjang or Chua chu kang area?
My son is 6 yrs old. He only likes to play with water. however he has phobia of getting too much water in his eyes . Only recently, he allows goggles but for short time period.
Wish to engage a private coach who is patient enough n trained to coach special needs kids.
Any recommendations? Thank you in advance -

I talked to his English teacher yesterday, in K2, the class duration is 1.5hr longer than K1. 15 to 20 minutes group discussion, he will lose himself during this period. He is able to do all the worksheets, but hand on activity, can not follow mul-step instructions. For him, I only can monitor first then make the decision to defer or not in the second half.
Lots of kids don't focus during group discussions. As for multi-step instructions, again, even NT kids have problems with that. I think you may be worrying too much. Ask your son's teachers if he the worst in class in those areas - you may find that he isn't. -

I also have my boy deferred last yr. This yr he joined pathlight (finally got accepted!) P1 standard class. He is more open up and happy now.Hi all Daddy and Mummy,
Who can give some advices about the defer for P1?
My son is in K2 now. He has been in a mainstream childcare for 3 years. No behavior issues except easy to be nervous. So far, nobody suggest me defer him, but I felf his social awareness is low. Thinking about defer 1 year for P1. Sign! Really stressful.
Last time I felt that he was not ready for the primary school. So I applied for deferment. At ARC they have a list of school readiness assessment for you to check whether the kid is ready for primary school yet.
I look back and always think this is a good choice to defer him. Just my own feeling... :snuggles: -
Hi
Anyone can share what and how to prepare autistic child for primary one?
How do you seek mother tongue exemption? -
Niu2009:
I didn't defer my boy although his social awareness was low in k2. Coz acad wise, I thought he could cope with it. I think if it's just social awareness that you are worried about, I don't think u need to. The environment in childcare and primary school is very different. I found my kid learned a lot and coped much better in pri school.Hi all Daddy and Mummy,

Why don't you just let him try it out? If in pri school, u find that he really can't cope, then u can take him out again.
I declared my son's condition to the school. The advantages are:
1) the school assigned an AED for primary 1 in his class. There were 2 special needs kids in his class including him. The aed sat in the class and is sort of like an assistant teacher. This is so that the class doesn't think that the 2 special needs kids are any different.
2) teacher is more forgiving about him walking around in classroom and touching the computer.
3) mother tongue exemption. Yay! I got the exemption and his overall results improved so much.
4) his teacher told the discipline master of his condition, so during assembly time, they won't be so hard on him when he lies down and rolls on the floor.
The bad things:
A teacher started treating him differently after he knew about it. His CCA teacher wanted to 'get rid' of him and so he didn't allow him to play during the cca. When some teammates treated him badly, the teacher also didn't intervened. We eventually quit the cca since it's getting nowhere with this.
He has improved a lot and if nobody says anything, outsiders won't realise that he has special needs. Probably just think that he is a noti kid rather than special needs. His teacher said that the aed said he is overcoming his issues with his intelligence.

Thanks! Actually my son consider mild, outsider or non experienced teacher even cann't detect the difference with normal kids now. For him, I may declare his condition, may not. For acdemy, i think he can cope, so far, he is a bit advanced especially math. Both English and Chinese can read and write. Only need to work on his handwriting as not so neat.
I don't know why felt quite stressful this year K2. His teachers also want to push him in social part. What I am dining now is working with his therapists to teach him how to handle bully. -

Then I think you don't need to defer. I'm sure he will learn to cope in primary school. Like I say, it's very different in pri school.

Don't let other pp's standards stress u up. -
Hi mommies, I just wanna share that my son is 3 years 2 months now and after 1 week of intensive potty training, he finally potty trained during the day (yeay, no more diapers!) :rahrah: I'm so happy that he can reach out to any adults near him and said \"pee pee\" & hold it very well until reaching the toilet. Looks like we're going to bring him to the mall/public places & teach him to generalize it everywhere. From where he is now, his behaviour consultant is positive that he will be able to do it soon
