Who can give some advices about the defer for P1?
My son is in K2 now. He has been in a mainstream childcare for 3 years. No behavior issues except easy to be nervous. So far, nobody suggest me defer him, but I felf his social awareness is low. Thinking about defer 1 year for P1. Sign! Really stressful.

I also have my boy deferred last yr. This yr he joined pathlight (finally got accepted!) P1 standard class. He is more open up and happy now.
Last time I felt that he was not ready for the primary school. So I applied for deferment. At ARC they have a list of school readiness assessment for you to check whether the kid is ready for primary school yet.
I look back and always think this is a good choice to defer him. Just my own feeling... :snuggles:

I do not wish for her to develop an aversion to Mandarin as it is my desire for her to take up Mandarin when we move back to CA. The school district in our small town of Tiburon does offer extra-curricular Mandarin. She has not started her primary education yet I'm already a nervous-wreck, having heard so much about the high standards.

School has been started for few months now, how's your girl doing?
Last time my girl joined sg local school system when we were moved here due to my husbands job relocation. My girl has no prior experience learning Mandarin Chinese as well. She joined p1. She turned out fine with the language. Now she is p5 already.
The first three yrs of chinese learning is in fact not very difficult. Tests were on simple side I would say. If not aiming on high flying grade then it's fine with most of the kids. Since you are just staying for three yrs, just relax and let your girl handle. May be turn out she falls deeply in love with the language. So no worries. :imcool: :imcool:
The upper primary chinese will be more challenging. My girl needs to put a lot of effort on it. So if your family needs to extend the stay, then if her chinese is not very good, you may consider some tuition for her. But now she is still young. Let her enjoy.

Phtthp, I fully understand that we are just 2nd tier residents living in SG here and pathlight of course should serve the SG first before others. I don’t hv any complaint on it. My boy passed the requirement test as well. Just no luck to go in next yr.
My daughter’s school is a neighborhood school as well. I will connect with the principal and the AED to see what will happen. I understand that nothing much can be changed, but as a parent, we need to advocate for our children.
I see quite a number of parents concerning about which school can hv better support for our special needs kids. I believe that each special needs kid differs from one another so through communicate with the school you know more about what they can do. Mainstream is stressful. It’s all for the grades. I wish my boy can cope with the hours. My hope for flexible hours is like he still goes to school everyday, but off earlier. Of course I don’t know the possibility. I will explore. If it is only for passing exam, I don’t believe it’s a big problem for my boy, indeed…

Hi all, let me share some background first.

My boy has turned 7. He is on the spectrum. We hv put him for two yrs of therapies without normal school. Just this yr he joined back to mainstream kindy K2. He is doing ok.
We hv him deferred for one yr to prepare him for P1. Previously we hv planned to let him go to pathlight. But since he is turned down from pathlight because of his PR status, we will send him to my elder daughter's local primary school next yr.
It's the end of the yr now. I'm planning to liaise with the primary school to touch base with the AED there.
May I know if any parent here has the experience on what should I ask for from the school and AED? I'm planning to ask for extra time for orientation for my boy, to know about his form teacher and other involved teachers first, to ask for arrangement of him in a class with fewer kids (may not happen, I know), to ask for meet up with teachers to let them meet my boy, to talk about seat arrangement, homework arrangement, mood handling, possible teaching methods, in class and assistance, flexible school hours, safe corner for calming down, visuals and tools can be used to help him,........
May I know about your insight? Or share your experience to liaise with the school? Thank you in advance. :please:

You can find sonrise program in FB support group. And google for it and you can see the difference of this and ABA.
I like this program and I heard of the founder of the program will come to sg next yr. I look forward to it.

Our situations are alike.
Tmr we are going to PL to see what the board say. I am having no interest if the board offer other sped school though. If turn out like this, we will send him to my elder girl’s mainstream school to try.
I think of home school him as well. Though my hubby is not quite sure of this way. Let’s see what happen first.
Do you contact the AED of your boy’s prospect school? I’m planning to meet with my girl’s school AED soon after tmr meeting with PL. I want to find out how supportive it can be in the school…

Like you, my boy didn’t get an offer by pathlight…
Really sad… But like my hubby said, he is still my lovely smart boy, no matter what.
Next yr he will therefore join my daughter’s mainstream school. Will your boy go to mainstream school? I’m expecting lots of liaison with the school now… Really hard… But still hv to move on.

How’s your gal doing? June holiday already. Time flies.
My boy attended the school screening test yesterday. Results will be out in July. Really hv to pray hard and cross my fingers! I didn’t know how he performed, looks happy before and after… He just told me that he played bingo…
Imagining if he gets offer then I will be happier than striking toto… But if not… Still not dare to think…

They have a website and it's has quite a lot of info. What questions do you want to ask? How old is your boy? Do pm me if you want, as I am not reading this forum very frequently.
