hi helplessmum,
sort out the basics such as listening to instructions, follow instructions and having joint attention first. -
helplessmum3:
My NT 2 yr old can recognize all the alphabets and know their phonic sounds. Can recognize 1- 12 but still learning to count but so far he can count items up to 5 then lose focus already. Shape and colour all he knows as well.Nugget,
2.5yo now , what shd they be learning ? Is is spelling and mathematic ?
But his social and communication skill supersede by his ASD kor kor by a lot. My 2 year old can converse with me already. I can really see a gap between the both kids in terms of their social skill. -
2.5 - 3.4 : learn and master basic 26 sounds from a to z
3.5 - 5 : learn to blend sounds eg: c- at, f - at, m - at,
after 4.5: can read simple sentences
spelling start in K2 in most pre-school.
however some schools start earlier, after mid K1
by mid K1 to K2, child should be able to read 5 to 10 simple sentences type. -

Yes, what munchkukie say is right. My no 2 also can follow instructions without me repeating so many times. And when he find something interesting, he will take the toy/book and run to me or his daddy and show it to us and say \"Mummy/Daddy see\". And he will always check if we are paying attention and will wait until we look at his toys. -
nugget:
good for you, nugget. sure can understand what a fantastic feeling this is. :rahrah: :boogie:Today my son had his first longest conversation with me. It was nothing much but I am still very glad. WE are talking about dark clouds in the sky outside the window and if can we still go swimming pool or not. After that he took out his soft toys and we role play with that and he was leading the conversation most of the time.
He is really improving .. i am so so happy. A happy day for me.
Hopefully one day he will tell me everything that happened in school. I am really looking forward to that day. :boogie:
since few days ago, my dd3 has started to call 'mummy' loud and clear across rooms to get my attention. compare this with couple of months ago where she could only stand at the doorway quietly waiting for someone to attend to her after she shi shi in her pants, this achievement is just great. she is also becoming clearer when she sings her favorite nursery rhymes.
i feel happy, too, with these simple steps. :rahrah: :celebrate: -
nugget:
i worry, while i workin on these he might lack in ecademy...munchkukie:

No la. My no 2 is just normal kid. Maybe he is a bit faster than his peers. I dun believe he is way advanced.

His kor kor (the one with ASD) at this age already read in sentences. That time I thought I have a gifted child, who knows he turned out to be ASD. Every child got their strength.. yours can count to 100 and can spell already. Even better than my 4 year old.
Keep talking to your doctors and the therapist to find out his strengths and weakness. Help him to focus on his strength and lessen his weaknesses. Your kid is only 2.5 year old, early intervention will really help him a lot if u start early. -

I think your kid is about same age as my NT gal. My gal so far knows her a-z. Count 1-10. Can read only those sight words that I taught her repeatedly like up, is, am.
So your boy is rather advanced acad already. Don’t worry. U should be more concerned about his social skills. When my boy was this age, I sent him to school not to learn acad stuff but to pick up social skills which he lacked. At 2.5, u shouldn’t be worried about acad work. even for a normal kid, it should be in the lower priority. It’s the time to teach about sharing, social skills, listening to instructions etc.
Nugget
My gal is also behind my boy in terms of acad stuff but she can converse better with me than what he is doing now!
