If you are offered HCL, school will allocate students to HCL class. Otherwise there is a chinese test before school opening to test on suitability for HCL class. Even in HCL class, if fail HCL by end of sec one, student will be allocated to CL class.

current sec one is 6 higher chinese vs. 4 chinese class. I guess it is depends on cohort.

There are some tuition centres like mind stretcher or jiang teacher chinese tuition centre do provide secondary chinese tuition. Personally not tried it, as DD does not have Chinese tuition, in fact no tuition in sec one. I felt the school provide enough support and study materia for the students. As long as the student follow closely and revise daily, should be fine to score A. AHS has quite a lot of homework, so additonal tuition will add on to the workload.
