Before I registered my kids in P1, I thought getting 230+ is as easy as ABC. It was only in last year PTM that I understand from my girl’s FT that above 230 is in fact top 30% of entire P6 cohort. In my kids’ school, I heard only around 50%+ of the students scored above 230. If the purpose of getting into that primary school is due to it’s affiliation, I will consider a school with a lower affiliation COP (e.g. PLMGS, ACS, MSHS etc).

True enough, I think this year is going to be quite transparent as in the interviews will be conducted in the Primary school.

covid-19 had created so much stress, disruptive anxiety, sure got overwhelming number of DSA applicants, this year. Have some offer in your hand, better than nothing. Have a bird in your palm, better than nothing

Indeed there is a lot of stress and disruption. The kids are going to have a “surprised” weighted term test in 2 weeks time. This was not even made known to them during the HBL.

      Very transparent !
Don't be surprised that on that short-listed test date, when your child take the DSA subject tests, she (he) see another familiar face P6 classmate / school-mate from Another class, also taking the same subject test. Just say, \"Hi, you also taking the same test ? Wow ! That's cool ! \"

The schools that my girl applied to will only start sending interview/ audition invitation in early Jul. Even if they “fast hand fast leg”, I presume the earliest they are able to send the invite is end Jun.

I am quite sure there is a surge in the number of applicants this year.

In my daughter’s class, at least half the class applied. Some prefer to just keep confidential about it. Not sure why.

They prefer to keep confidential, because end up competitors, applying for the same Secondary school

Anyway, on that very day when they have to take subject DSA tests at their primary school's site, they will know who are their fellow P6 competitors, whether come from the same P6 class, or come from other P6 classes in the same primary school, if they are applying for the same academic subject domain

True enough, I think this year is going to be quite transparent as in the interviews will be conducted in the Primary school.

In an effort to “keep” as many of her girls as possible, PLMGS increased 1 more Sec 1 express class for 2020 intake.

I do not think it will be this fast. Selection for interview starts 1 Jul and actual interview/ audition only commence from mid Jul.

    • RE: All about Transferring to Other Primary Schools

Most of the schools that have enrolment > 300 are coed GEP/ SAP schools. No affiliation advantage (except for NYPS) yet these schools are highly sought after. Balloting is still required within 1km.

      Good morning,

Will practising doing the past PSLE papers be sufficient to prepare for PSLE?

      Thank you.

      of course not

should practise your PSLE papers first, because this is the core (main) pillar.
After that, use whichever schools' past year papers, or use whichever Assessment book(s) u deem fit, to supplement (support) that area of weakness spotted (identified / surfaced), in your PSLE paper practice

Thank you for the valuable advice. I was thinking PSLE papers should be the last to do, just before Prelim. You are right that the kids should do PSLE papers first, identify and target the area that needs improvement. We were using top school papers to identify the gap and realise some schools really set much more challenging questions than the others. The standard across even these so-called top schools is quite different especially for Math and Science. EL is about the same. As for CL, the difficulty level is higher for SAP school papers.

Some schools will be conducting the term test in a few weeks time. This is to replace the mid-year examination. It is a good practice for the P6 instead of waiting till prelim to discover the gap. Since schools already set the mid year questions, they might as well just let the students do the papers.

My girl’s teachers are really stepping up to assist the students. Compulsory remedial classes will commence next week. The amount of schoolwork is really A LOT. 😓 There is literally no more time to practice TOP school papers or do additional tuition work.

Is this the same situation in other schools too, all gearing up for PSLE?

I only hope the kids do not get burnt out before PSLE. It is really a stressful year.
