Imo, 一山还有一山高,maybe it really got alot of very outstanding gep kids applied under this domain..no point let you have a chance to interview but in the end didnt get the co..
Just my personal opinion...
98% is already very high score unless we are saying those applied and selected by RI consistently scored 99% or 100% in Math? 😓

I am sure many parents want to know how come not shortlisted for interview? It is somewhat ridiculous.

Hope some reporters will pick this and probe further.

The case is just so weird and I feel at least the child should be shortlisted for an interview. Getting A* is already not easy, furthermore this is 98% and from GEP plus Math Olympiad.

What is the selection criteria then?

Schools need to be transparent so that the kids do not waste their precious 3 choices. If RI is only keen in students with gold or platinum in Olympiad, they should state so. If they are only keen in kids who are recipients of ECHA or EAGLES, apart from good results, they should state so too.

Hope the new MOE Minister Lawrence Wong is able to improve this whole DSA process and really be transparent on the criteria.

Is your DD’s friend in GEP? Seems like it’s harder for GEP kids to get DSA offer.

But then isn’t that a bit unfair to the GEP kids?

No, DD and friends are all from mainstream class.

Actually, I always thought GEP students are easier to be selected.

Learnings for next year DSA.

Try to avoid Math Domain because I find it is really overly competitive. Must make the best use of the 3 choices. There are too many students with strong Math results and Math Olympiad achievement these days. If the kid is not a gold or platinum recipient, chance of getting selected is really slim for DSA to top schools. One of DD’s friend consistently 90+ in Math is also not selected by SNGS. She has Olympiad silver.

Maybe it is wiser to select other Domains and good results in Math is an added advantage.

If number of offers given is only a handful then it is no surprise to me. I see in GEP the number of boys with outstanding achievements in maths olympiad are quite many.
I guess so too, either missed out or highly competitive for Math domain. I am sure GEP boys are very strong in Math and Science so to compete among the pool of GEP kids, it is really challenging.
Is it just my circle of friends that we noticed the number of interviews given out to applicants is less than previous years?

There are more invites given out for academic related domains. For sports, performing arts and leadership, not many are shortlisted. Perhaps, conducting e-audition for sports and performing arts is more challenging so the secondary schools are more selective this year. Otherwise it is really a waste of time and resources for both primary and secondary schools.

My DS is in GEP but he was not shortlisted for RI maths domain this year. There were no maths olympiad this year so for his P5 he got high distinction in RIPMWC but not selected for the 2nd round, silver NMOS, gold for mathlympic, silver for his maths masterclass by NUSH. His maths grade in school consistently about 98%. Guess it is harder for GEP these days although I also did not hope too much for RI dsa since imo his achievements are not enough anyway but since application is free no harm in trying.
I am really surprised! Could it be accidentally filtered out by mistake because I am sure Math domain will have the most number of applicants, especially so for boys’ school. Anyway, your boy will still get in by PSLE so no worries for your case. 🙂

The earliest month to conduct DSA intervview, is in July.
As long as all DSA interview are over and done with, by the end of 31 July,
there's no way to clash with your Prelim, if all primary schools agree in unison that the earliest Oral were to start, is start from that 1st week of August, onwards

- cannot be June (resting, re-cuperation period of staff, school Teachers, and

- also for PSLE students who need to brush up intensively, because June is the only period that they can brush up

- also, many tuition centre conduct June PSLE workshop too, in the 4 subjects
It looks like this year DSA started later as compare to previous years? Those schools that responded fast and already concluded their interviews in early-mid Jul are high commendable.

Unfortunately, many will either clash with prelim or PSLE Oral. DD has 2 classmates whose interviews fall on PSLE Oral week. It is really bad planning in my opinion. Hopefully, it is only this year due to unforeseen circumstances.

Those schools that scheduled the interviews in mid Aug, the dates will clash with the actual PSLE orals. It is going to be a bigger headache for those kids. Actually it is more ideal if the DSA process started a few weeks earlier.
