Hi everyone,

My DD got confirmed offer from an IB school and an IP school so we are very confused. I realize that it's like comparing apples and oranges but I would really appreciate feedback from any parent here for some clarity.
Appreciate the help.
Thanks
Depends on you want A level or IB. IB is smaller population comparing to A level. The IB curriculum has more projects so arguably more related to working life. IB is more common in US system while A level is more common in UK system.

Hi parents,

May i clarify the following:

If child gotten \"WL\" now and child submitted the sec as school preference (sometime in end Oct), then the child will be in the following situation when receiving PSLE result?

1. If \"WL\" changed to \"CO\" then will join the sec school
2. If \"WL\" changed to \"RE\" then will have to go for \"Sec 1 posting exercise\"

Thanks in advance!
Yes, it works this way. You will know the PSLE score and DSA WL result at the same time. Take note if you get one CO and one WL, then need to be careful on how to indicate preference when you want the WL school. If you put CO then WL, you will get that CO school; if you put WL then CO, if WL successful, you get WL school, if not, you get CO school; if you put WL then blank, if WL successful, you get WL school, if not, you go for Sec 1 posting exercise.
Congratulations to all shortlisted or offered Music/MEP domain!
Can share what are the instruments accepted and grade? Is it need at least 2 instruments eg piano and violin grades 7 and above? And grade 5 music theory?

Does the school CCA need to be string in order to apply for string ensemble DSA?

Hope parents can advise.

No, the child doesn't need to be in strings cca in primary school to apply for strings DSA - is that what you are asking? Means yours not P6 this year?

DD P6 next year, no string CCA in current primary school.

As I heard from friend DD that her daughter Grade 7 violin, Grade 5 piano and music theory was neither shortlisted for MGS MEP nor NJC string this year. No competition awards though. Since my DD same profile, maybe slim chance too.
MEP is quite a competitive domain. From past experience, those big name schools will shortlist around 10-15 people and eventually only offer 2-3. Nowadays, they do not explicitly list minimum requirement. 2 years ago, ACSI did have such information. They listed that to have a reasonable chance, they expect Grade 8 for piano and violin, Grade 6 for other instruments.

curious ... anyone from Non-sports DSA domain, also gotten verbal CO, from the O-level / IP schools (MOE regulated) ? probably, your e-interview performance must have been brillant
From past experience, schools do give verbal CO before a formal one. They said if you received multiple CO and had made up your mind taking up another school, please told them so that they can arrange the CO to another candidate.

Still considering whether to ballot for acsjr within 1 km for phase 2c? Anyone willing to share their experience?

In 2012, ACSJ, 2C phase, <1KM, 57 kids ballot for 54 seats. I guess the 3 unlucky ones eventually got in as well because the school started with less than 30 people a class.

• RE: Investment property in the UK

I am kind of looking on overseas properties for some time. Some of the properties are dirt cheap comparing to SG. Like VK says, it’s just a piece of COE price. I always feel lack of knowledge, especially on legal and tax. Also, if there is a dispute, either with developer or tenant or management company, I don’t really know what I can do. So current strategy remains on REIT.

As invest in US to get green card, not really a good deal to me. They probably have the worst tax system in the world. It’s kind of pay a big guy and hope he will protect you in the future. But I don’t really have confidence on this guy.

• RE: Singtel Bill charges many $0.20 ??? Anyone know what is this

I am not sure about descriptions you listed there.

Typically expensive SMS is when your friend is overseas. Receive SMS is free even your are overseas. So someone has to foot the roaming. It is the sender. You will never know when you need to pay because normally you will not know whether your friend is overseas or not.

Other things I encountered is SMS to land line by mistake. Apparently some land line can receive SMS but the sender will pay extra.

If it is one off small amount, then not worth the effort to check. Recurring is a different story.

Groupon is going down? Not that easy. They are planning their IPO with valuation of 10B. They are still at burning cash stage but they have very deep pocket.

.... It's up to you to choose. He thought very hard and eventually decided on packet drink after a few minutes' mental struggle.

I was given a knock on the head by the wife when I told her though.

Just curious...was it really up to him or would u have insisted he buy the drink if he had chosen the ride?? :?

It is really totally up to him. He initially fought (or better in chinese - Lai) to get both. He always wins with grandpa. 🤷 I made it very clear to him: he can choose any one, but only one.
