Hi, for students who enter via DSA with sports vs. students who enter with PSLE result then choose sports as CCA, do they spend the same amount of time in training? will school have same expectation on them? i understand those enter with sports are not allowed to change CCA. Just want to know if they will be required to train longer time or more days in school. Hope to get some advice here, thanks in advance.

RE: River Valley Primary
is RVPS really a good school? my P3 son was transferred to this school in July and has told me a few times about the class being ‘very noisy’. Some kids just talk (joke) loudly during class, and some even fly paper plane. The teacher would either carry on lesson ignoring them, or just turn off the ceiling fan one by one as punishment, or just look back at the kids with a ‘stern’ look and silence, or let the class stay back for 5-10minutes… Obviously these action do not change the kids behavoir and for the whole semester it’s as ‘noisy’ as that…
I have no clue if end of P3 there will be shuffle of class. I just hope my son can be transferred to a class where the kids respect the teachers more… -

Hi TheKhek, understand your concern and hope by now your kid is getting used to the school and has stopped crying.
for the teachers (good or not), parents cannot choose, it’s by luck. If lucky, then get a good teacher.
for the class grading, i dont think can tell for P1 or P2. However at the end of P2, there’s a ‘streaming’ so those who are good at Chinese can go to a new class since P3 where they can learn higher chinese. The rest will go to other classes without higher chinese. The criteria for the selection is all the subjects must be band 1. So can treat this as an indicator, i think. For ‘the other classes without Chinese’, only 1 class is for the weaker learners, all the rest are similar, i think. (all by my own guess, as school wont tell u which class is good or bad).
If you want to find out if the child is doing well, wait and see if he is given some tasks as ‘class monitor’, ‘group leader’, etc. I think from there can have an idea of his ‘ability’ performance at school, which however now i feel is important.
Good luck and hope all the kids will have a happy primary school life. -

RE: Geylang Methodist School
i would say, overall this school is quite ok. For your dear kid, it’s the teacher that your child would encounter that makes a big difference. From my experience, my son had very good & involved teacher who is like friend to parents, and also had ‘not so involved’ teacher whom couldn’t even provide effective feedback, all from this school. The staff (general office, dental nurse, care corder staff) are so far helpful. The school will build a new sports hall soon and is asking parents to donate so the school will have more fund to build a ‘nicer’ hall.
My kid enjoyed the CCAs, as well as the library time, ‘computer lab’ time, and even weekly chapel time. Of couse they like the PE class most and love the recess time best, haha.
My kid only attended this school due to distance and so far i’m satisfied. You can seek opinion from other parents and compare with other schools. -

Hi all,
I have been staying at RV area for the past 1 year while my son who finished P2 has been commuting from our place to Pei Hwa Primary. It takes an hour to get to school and another hour back home. Worse next year as he starts morning session.
We recently applied was accepted by RVPS to start in P3.
Just wondering if we should make a switch from Pei Hwa since he has lots of friends and is gaining a nice momentum academically.
How are your experiences in RVPS - with teachers, school culture, children, etc?
Any advice will be very much appreciated as we need to make a decision v soon! Thx
I'm also trying to transfer my son to RVPS and have been told the waitlist is long. You may want to check it out with them first. -
