RE: DSA 2015
Just received a call from TJC, for interview on July 30. I rescheduled it to Aug 5, since DS is free on Wednesdays.

Does anyone have any idea how many students would TJC take in for DSA? We are just wondering how many people would they call for interview and how many would actually get the place. Can anyone advise?

TJC takes in 50% of enrollment through DSA, that would mean 75 students since total is 150 for Y1.
Don't know how many applicants are called, and the number accepted though. -
RE: Temasek Junior College [*IP]
Called the school two days ago, they are still processing the DSA applications. Interviews will be held early August.

Does anyone know if DSA applications for TJC have been gone through? Did anyone receive anything like a call for the interview or something? :3
No results yet, as far as I know. Just last week, we received an email acknowledging receipt of the documents for the application. It also states: \"Please note that shortlisted applicants will be notified to attend the interview held in end July / beginning August. We will be contacting the applicants' parents to inform them of the interview schedule (phone call/SMS).\"
Sit back and wait, I guess. :xedfingers: -
RE: Temasek Junior College [*IP]
I believe it is very important to find a school that suits your child best. My eldest is in RI but we have decided DS 2 should attend TJC. We have been to the school twice, for both the O levels and P6 students Open Houses.
I like that TJC has a small cohort, which translates to more individualized learning. DS 2โs character is such that he will blossom in a cosier environment. Being self-motivated, he will do well in this school. The opportunities for overseas learning will also be something he will like very much. DS 1 on the other hand, is someone who needs to be in a slight "pressure-cooker" environment. Because the boys in his school tend to "mug", he too has picked up some of this habit. I am thankful for this, because left to his own, DS1 would prefer not to study at all.
To cut a long story short, I helped my two DSs picked sec schools entirely dependent on a each individualโs learning style. -

Assuming if the school offers both O and IP track, if my kid DSA via CCA and got selected, it will be under O level track? If the actual PSLE results turn out to be good and qualified for IP track, are we able to switch to IP?
They will only decide which track based on your child's PSLE results.
In my son's case, IIRC he needed a minimum of 240 to qualify for IP. Those who were accepted and had a lower T-score were in the O level class. If they improve their grades within the year, they can still move on to do the IP. -
RE: DSA 2015
JTS, 2 years ago we successfully enrolled DS1 into RI via sports DSA. This year, for DS2 we haven't quite decided what to do.
DS1 was very good at his sport, and DS2 is just very academic. Not sure if we should try the RI Academic DSA as the standards are incredibly high, even by DS2's level. Although he's very good at Math, scoring highest in his cohort and full marks at most exams, he does not have the Olympiad titles to back him.
Was looking at TJC and VS, but I feel he should at the very least still try for RI because big brother is there. -
RE: Raffles Institution (Year 1-4)
Love4learning:
HI Parents,
anyone with kids doing Golf as cca? May I Know how many times a wk they do trainings and where? So far is that CCA tough to get in? What about shooting? I bet this cca must be competitive and popular...
Thanks!
My son is in the air pistol shooting team. Practice is 2 to 3 times a week, 3 hours per session. This increases to almost everyday before Nationals. On certain days he gets home at 8pm, and although this timing may seem tight, it teaches him to prioritize and learn to manage his time.
Closer to exams, the CCA schedule takes a back seat, and practices can be cancelled altogether. It's all about balance. -
