considering for dd to go through O level music in Sec 3 next year. however, she need to travel to another school as current school does not offer music. she has grade 6 piano and now working to her grade 8 in 2020. not talented but incline to music which she deem less academic rigorous… but worry about the logistic to another school… any advise ? is this practical?

RE: 2017 Secondary School Selection for 2018

No harm including Edgefield and Pei Hwa if interested as allocation of school is based on merits. If the COP of these 2 schools don't drop, your DS will still be considered for his 3rd choice. However, do prep him for the possible disappointment. i believe the P6 cohort in NE has increased and this may lead to greater competition for places in the NE resulting in higher COP.Hi
Would like to seek some advise in terms of school at NE area for ds. He scores 216 and these are the list of schools after our discussion:-
1) Greendale Secondary (walking distance)
2) Compassvale Secondary - bus/mrt
3) Punggol Secondary (walking distance)
4) Northvista Secondary - bus/mrt
5) Sengkang Secondary - bus/mrt
6) Serangoon Secondary - bus/mrt
Any views on this? Also ds wanted to try Edgefield (which COP is too high, I felt) as well as Pei Hwa - missed by 1 point. What do you think? -

Stay Positive:
Hi, does anyone have feedback of Pei Hwa sec and Edgefield Sec? I wud like to know the parents/students experience and how committed are the teachers. Everyone said these 2 schs are good neighbourhood sch but cant tell me what are the good things abt it. Thanks
Feedback is only based on visits to Open House of both schools this year.
Pei Hwa first impression is discipline oriented. According to the student guide, their CCA strength is in Robotics and Taekwando. Was surprised that the Teacher herself is conducting the tour for my kids and she handed us to a Student leader to allow them to have more interactions. Their open house is more of a guided tour unlike others which do a lot fan fare. Got a feel that it is back to the basics focusing on education.
Edgefield open house appear more vibrant with a lot more student involvement. They have niche CCAs such as shooting club and Youth flying club. However, told kids not to select purely base on niche CCAs as it may be subjected to trials/selection. Kids were impressed with their Design & Technology which showcase many participation in competition. -
RE: 2016 Date of open house for secondary school
DD is thinking of guitar as a CCA. She is currently average in ukulele. Any suggestion for open house to go… Current thread appear to be more academic focus. Welcome suggestion of other CCA to expose them during open house. Check some school website. Limited info and worst some don’t seems to function.

RE: Horizon Primary
Thanks for the response on PSLE. It seems to be very close to the national average. Will continue without tuition and monitor their assessment.

RE: Horizon Primary
Anyone have clue on PSLE performance of the school? Have not put kids through tuition and like to benchmark if this is sustainable.
