    • RE: Is Montessori enrichment good to prepare for P1?

I think Montessori is a really good way to grasp a concept. I didn’t realise how much my kids learnt until friends said their kids have problems with numbers and letters. Traditionally, knowing numbers seem to begin from writing. With Montessori it starts from recognizing the concept of numbers before the writing of it. I found that worked a lot better in understanding basic arithmetic.

    • RE: [Bukit Merah] Primary Schools

Hi all, need some advice. It's dragon baby's year for 2018 enrollment and spaces will be slightly more competitive

We could get my #1 into Zhangde under phase 2A2. The problem is that we have heard some stories about Zhang De because all our neighbours' kids go there. (Mainly of a particular music teacher and of teachers who doesn't explain well.) We were told to try Alexandra Primary because the school is new and the teachers have more time for the kids. However, we are 1-2km from that school. The chances that it would go into a ballot for >1km would be high as it seems extremely popular. By 2019 they will be at full capacity and the attention will be diluted.

We are thinking of trying another school in phase 2C, Radin Mas is our best bet (<1km). (In 2017 there was balloting for <1KM). Likely this will continue given it is a dragon year. If we fail to get into 2C, I don't like any of the other potential choices with vacancies at 2C( Gan Eng Seng, Blangah Rise).

My husband thinks we should just try the ballot and have Gan Eng Seng as backup.
I am uncomfortable with the uncertainty and would prefer to hear good stories of Zhang De or any advice that you might have.

      :thankyou: .

    • RE: All About Montessori

      mlong:

Hamilton Preschool (previously MMI Sengkang) now offers a blended curriculum of both MMI concepts and PAP type of learning. It's the same campus. there's another one at sembawang.
      That's not montessori education.

Take him out. You don’t need to hear if someone else has the same experience. You don’t need to talk to the school. You need to raise hell.

    • RE: Pay for what you get?

      Hi all

I really want to pull my kid out of his current childcare. My child is not a precious snowflake specimen that can’t take scolding. My problem is that he is bringing threatening language back home. He also rambled the other day, or else teacher won’t let (you/who) go home. Husband and I can’t agree on the places we like but we want to compromise.

Most lower cost childcares I have seen (my first skool, dardis, moral) either have disinterested carers or carers who threaten. The middle range childcares have some interested teachers with over active admin managers. Most higher cost childcare (carpe diem at royal road, arts kidz, arts junior) I have seen have teachers who make effort to engage kids and the activities are frun.

Am I right? Is it really a question of budget?

      Pen88n:
      Lynn2010 & Verykiasumummy,

The last time I took my masters was donkey years ago before my kids even come along, and boy, was I glad I finished all my studying by then else I really doubt I would even consider having my masters. Raising a family really take up a lot of time, effort and $$ :
I share your sentiments. I have a 8mth old and I am tired all the time. I can't imagine adding studying to the mix. I would be too stressed. To study with kids in the house, that is amazing.

    • RE: Learning through play with minimal academic focus

Learning doesn’t mean doing worksheets. Learning through play doesn’t mean just all play. Educational activities can be made fun.

Sounds great! I love arts based classes. It is too bad the school is not where I live.

    • RE: Any good childcare near bukit merah?

In case you haven't seen this...

      http://www.childcarelink.gov.sg/

You can select the area. That's what I did.

Have you visited any schools? I went to Moral across from Tiong Bahru Plaza. The teachers seems very eager to ensure the kids are on schedule. The carers seem v warm and friendly. They take nursery aged kids not the younger toddlers.

Oh dear! What a terrible experience for yourself and your child. That is not nice of the principal at all.
