    • RE: Scholarships - Pre-University

      Hi to all

My Ds is considering applying for the MOE Pre-U Scholarship, would any seniors be willing to share any general guidelines or tips for the interview (like what the interview process is like) and admission essay? Thanks so much in advance 😄 😄 😄 :thankyou:

      KS parents:
Anyone have any info, inputs and sharing on DSA - MEP?

Any chance that practical and theory grade 3 will be eligible for audition?

Also the statistics of applicants vs shortlisted vs successful application?
I think Practical and Theory Grade 3 is the minimum requirement for MEP. But if you're going for DSA, I think the bar will be much, much higher, about Grade 5 (??). However, the interviewers do not judge students based on their paper qualifications, but based on their musical aptitude and potential demonstrated during the audition. And also their interest/passion in music. After all many successful applicants don't take successive music examinations. Let your son have a go at it...no harm done. 加油! 😂

P.S. someone please answer question on previous page - percentage weightings of each term for Year 4 IP. :thankyou:

My son said that at assembly a few days ago, Principal said that 23.6% got at least 8 distinctions and 56% (somewhere there, he remembered it is 50+%) got at least 6 distinctions. Note that number of students who took Os last year was halved as the other half are in IP, so every student "represents" 2 students in previous years.

Any idea how does Cath High group the students in Yr 1? As in according to DSA & non-DSA, or according to PSLE scores?

There is one class specially for DSA (talents other than academics) students. This is usually known as the \"Sports Class\", though there may be students who got in because of other reasons, like aptitude in music. I am not sure about the groupings of students who suceeded in DSA for academics.

Great! Congratulations to you! I think you should post it in the Eunoia JC thread if you haven’t.

To the DreamGear, IP students don’t take SS. KidCat, WRP is not really SS. They do take on modules like Cooking and Philosophy, according to my DS. But there is a large part of WRP that requires them to understand Political Systems of other countries and Contemporary China.

To the poster above, There are two kinds of CCA - First and Second. First is compulsory while second is a supplement, purely on a voluntary basis. Dance and Drama are first CCAs. Others include Uniformed Groups (ie. scouts, NPCC, NCC, SJAB), Performing Arts (ie. Dance, CO, Symphony Band) and Sports (ie. Basketball, Wushu, Volleyball, Track and Field, Tennis, Floorball) Clubs and Societies are not, however. CCAs like the ICT Club are considered as a second CCA.

Ah yes. Actually, IP students do not take Social Studies. As far as I know, they take "pure" humanaties. They need to acheive a pass in Passion Pursuit, and a B for subject average. Usually they let all Year 1 IP students promote, those that fall short of the requirements severely (very) will sit for another test.

Hi, IP students go to Eunoia JC, together with IP students from Singapore Chinese Girls’ School and CHIJ St Nicholas Girls’ School. Eunoia JC is a new government JC. It is currently located at Mt Sinai, a temporary holding site. It will move to Sin Ming, at the site currently holding a golf course, in 2020. IP students will sit for a test at the end of Year 4, to see whether they are qualified. If they are not doing so well, they will usually be transferred out of IP and into the O-level stream in Year 2. And yes, O-level students will gain an advantage of a deduction of two points into Catholic JC, like all other Catholic Schools, namely: Assumption English School, Catholic High School, CHIJ Katong Convent, CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh), CHIJ St. Joseph’s Convent, CHIJ St. Nicholas Girls’ School, CHIJ St. Theresa’s Convent, Hai Sing Catholic School, Holy Innocents’ High School, Maris Stella High School, Montfort Secondary School, St. Anthony’s Canossian Secondary School, St. Gabriel’s Secondary School, St. Joseph’s Institution and St. Patrick’s School, according to Wikipedia.
