Would like to ask if this is a normal practise in Mayflower Primary. Whole class is being withheld in class for as much as 15 minutes from Recess. Yes, it’s 15 minutes. Class was misbehaving and noisy.

School dismissed at 1.45pm. Has your child experienced it ? Is this a proper/authorised manner of punishment for class ? Do share your thoughts. Thanks.

      lalazio:
they are required to gather at 1.55pm at a 'holding' classroom to wait for a remedial class which only begin at 3pm!!

as a result, the pupils had to eat lunch really fast and my child didn't even finish her food
      Hi lalazio,

My child has remedial lesson as well. Was being informed that the hour is for them to rest or do homework if there’s any before remedial starts at 3pm. Also to keep them in safe place instead of wondering outside school. But during lunch time, canteen is less crowded with shorter queues. As no lesson is conducted during that holding hour, just tell your child to take it easy n enjoy lunch...u know what i mean??

      Hi all,

Would like to discuss about teachers holding students in class during recess time for misbehaving. Is this the right method or approved school protocol? I’m concern as it affects the health of some children with weak stomach and are unable to express their needs to teacher. Teacher is already fuming mad n it’s difficult to voice out.

It did happened to my child once, whereby the whole class was detained and had only 10 to 15mins left for recess due to some children misbehaving in class. With limited time left, they had to either go without food or swallowed as fast as possible. My child took a soya drink and went back to class as they were located right at the top floor. Some slow eaters took off with unfinished food. I think it affects the food vendor as well. Having supplied the regular amount of food with a few missing customers. Anyway, my child wolf down everything I had prepared for lunch.

My child from P3 came home with a form for GEP screening test. Can anyone share some light about this GEP thingy? What are the issues involved? I just want my child to be happy.

Anyway, I told my child to sign up for the challenge and have fun. No preps or stress. Just experience the process as it’s held during school time.

      Thks.

Had attended the Parents and Teacher Meet. Also met one of the Canteen operator by chance.

Upon reaching my child’s classroom, only then did I realise how far it was for my child to travel to the canteen and later back to classroom when finished. Those students whose classes are located at level 3 above and at the very school end corner will have to suffer. Mayflower is plague by extensive buildup of stairways. Sort of like Kungfu Panda making his way to Jade Palace on stairs.

Queuing for food is also time consuming. Which results in maybe 5-10 minutes for my child to gooble/swallow food. The canteen auntie declare it was a mad rush for the hungry kids. Worst off, there are some higher primary students cutting queue when teachers were not around. She pities them but can’t do much to help. Except serving the food quickly to lessen the queuing time.

Indeed the teachers are aware of this problem, likewise "can’t be help" as it was already the working system. Only help they offer is trying very hard not to hold on to the class before just reccess.

To make matters worst, making purchases at the Bookshop is also during Recess. Yet again, it’s the same scene same queue in the Bookshop. So I’ll pack food for my child if Bookshop visits are required.

My child is in 1B. Had attended the orientation this afternoon…weather super HOT and humid. From the entrance to the classroom it’s a long fleet of stairsways. Reminds me of the song…Stairways to Heaven.

      mng_kl:
was told the morning traffic can be quite bad... is it true?

School advice children to be in school by 7.10am. But lesson starts about 7.30am. There will be some children who comes after 7.10am.

Traffic for driving is slightly congested at the Cross junction beside Anderson and AMK library. It's still manageable. Don;t worry. As the school entrance is located at main road with 3 lanes.
